So I was playing with a friends new Miele and rotated the drum. Tried to spin it fast, but at a certain speed the drum was blocked!! Is there a special thing in the motor that blocks it or is there in every machine a brake (btw it was a Miele W 526 WPS a BOL one 1400 rpm and a traditional drum).
Anyone had those experience?

Funny you should mention that, One of my machines from a year or so a go, a Samsung did this, only if you spun the drum round by hand clockwise though, if it went above distribute speed it would stop! Thought it was very strange at the time I still dont know why they do it LOL

I was thinking it over again and came to a more detailed explanation.
The motor produces a direct current when you turn the drum by hand. That means the poles (plus and minus) change when you turn it clockwise and counterclockwise. I guess the explanation is, when the current flow is in the wrong direction (semiconductors ?) it may go through a resistor and therfore the brake effect.
I would not do that too often because you could burn out the part that acts as a resistor.

Well when I've been in Best Buy and have turned the drum of the LG washers relatively fast in either direction, they light up and beep as if the power switched was just pressed. This is without the power plug in a socket!! Try it sometime with an LG washer.
