I have begun to notice a build up of something on the interior of the machine. A cloudy looking substance that does not wash away. I suspect that it may be salt buildup from the softening system but cannot be sure.

Have any of you Miele Dishwasher owner's noticed the same thing? Any suggestions for cleaning that wont harm my machine?

What detergent are you using?

I noticed a build up, or film using Cascade.

Now I use Finish Quantem with a dose of STPP for good measure. Build up gone.

That's why we still have a stash of DW detergent with STTP. If we notice streaks on the inside of our DW, we just run the next load with a STTP flavored DW detergent.
Streaks gone. Usually we only use the stuff with STTP for really dirty dishes, about once per week. We use Finish Quantum.

Cascade Complete

I am currently try to finish up a box of Cascade Complete. Then I have a healthy supply of Finish Quantum to work with. I will bust out a single Quantum pack and see if it cleans up the mess. If it does, I will chuck the rest of the Cascade.

Thanks.

Miele

I have a Miele and have not had any issues with build up? I am using there own tablets (Miele) that I purchased off of Amazon. They work great! Since they have changed Cascade I know they have had a lot of complaints about white build up on glass when run through dishwashers. Too bad as Cascade used to be such a awesome brand.

Have not had any issues with cloudiness or residue. Usually I use Ecover tablets. Water hardness here is only 1/2 - 1 grain which precludes the need for the salt softening system. That said, I was under the impression that the salt doesn't actually enter the washing chamber of the machine, but instead is used as part of an ion exchange something-or-other for the water that does enter the washing chamber. The saline portion is flushed down the drain. If that is in fact how it works, then it's probably not residue from the water softening system.

First Cycle

I ran a wash last night with a Finish tablet. No discernible difference in the cloudiness on tub. I will continue to use the tabs this week and see if it slowly clears up. Otherwise, I will need to seek another solution.

The cloudiness appears mostly on the inside of the door and lower tub area around the water softener system. That is what made me think it might be buildup from salt.

Wondering if there is a stainless steel conditioner that can be used to clean it that wont harm any of the non-stainless parts of the machine.

I had that problem once

Our water is fairly soft so initially I didn't use the softener function but thought I would give it a try and see if it improved performance.  (That would have been hard to measure since the Miele always gave absolutely spotless results except for once when I put in the rack from the grill.) The whole bottom of the tub was covered with a white film after the first load.  The dishes and pans were cloudy as well.  Once I adjusted the softener function to the minimum level the film disappeared.   Since then I've discontinued using the additional softening.  I have always used either a Finish product or Seventh Generation detergent.

Perhaps it's being caused by an "overuse" of water conditioners. If you're using the salt in the machine plus the Cascade complete and/or Quaantum tabs that both have conditioners built into them? Just a thought.

salt adjustment

Hi Malcom

i am happy owner of various miele and siemens dishwashers in places with different water hardnes on the island. I used to face the same problem a year ago and the solution was to stop fairy (cascade) detergent and start to use somat 10 which is the best dishwasher detergent in my opinion on the market. Much better than miele own detergent which is a bit better than quantum.

However the biggest problem lies with your salt setting on the machine. what is your salt setting at the moment? i suggest that you turn up at lest 4 stages your salt adjustment and you will see the film to disappear after many washes.

do not try to clean the intereior of the machine with other chemicals. danger of scratching.

just be patient.

all the best,

Salt Adjustment

I dont think the softener setting can be set manually. It adjusted itself after the first wash cycle.

I will keep an eye on it over the next week to see if it slowly fades away.

am sure u can adjust it manualy

Malcom

read your manual am sure you can adjust it manually as well.

the latest miele models have dropped this feature.

I thought it was just me but I am experiencing a blue-ish effect going on with the stainless steel inner door and tank. I did make the mistake of using the new Finish dishwasher cleaner and it turned everything blue...plastics, racks, tank, door..in plastics I mean the detergent dispenser cover, salt dispenser cover and rinse aid cover, rollers, mid wash arm and the handle area for the screens, water intake and airflow covers and top airflow intake for the drying system. It took about 3 months to get the blue tint off the plastics but it stays on the tank and door. I have been using Finish Quantum, Finish powder, Cascade powder w/phosphates, Stop and Shop powder and Miele Tabs..still blue haze to tank and door....

Blue tint

I had a bottle of Jet Dry tip over and leak inside the cupboard once, leaving a blue stain that I never was able to fully remove.

Easy

All you need to do is run a hot wash let the machine start filling open the door add 1 cup white vinegar and let it run I do this about every 4/5 weeks my machine look like new after 5 years. I do the same wash the washer as well
