Well, I suppose it was inevitable. Miele has hiked it's prices for dishwasher tablets while greatly reducing the quantity per package.
The last time I purchased Miele tabs (6 or more months ago), I purchased the tall dark blue box with the tucked waist which contains 80 tabs in water-soluble wrappers for $31.99. This is a better deal than it initially sounds, because for most loads, the tabs (which are scored), can be broken or cut in half with kitchen shears, netting one 160 loads, which works out to .20/load, not bad for "luxury" detergent made to work with water sipping dishwashers.

ALAS...

Miele's "new" packaging is a box of 60 tabs, and are, I believe, made by a different manufacturer (not Claro). They'll run you about $30.00 a box, and the tabs, I believe, are not scored! That's $.50/load, or, cut in half (if they can be successfully cut without crumbling), .40/load, a more than 50% price hike. Sigh...I guess I'll switch to Cascade Complete powder when I run out of my ever-dwindling supply of old style scored tabs..
Has anyone tried the new Miele tabs in the new packaging? Is it the same Claro-manufactured tabs in a new package with 20 less tabs per box?

It Is Called "Downsizing" And You Should Get Used

Everything from toilet paper, breakfast cereal, cleaning products, you name it, is being downsized.

Since it is hard to raise prices in this economic climate, companies are selling slightly smaller or packages containing less product for the same or in some cases slightly higher prices.

Just a week or so ago, went to the supermarket for some shopping only to find our favourite chicken, Murrays, now comes in a new vacuum package, but contains one piece less per packaged (three chicken thighs instead of four for instance), but the price per pound did not change. A week before one paid about $3.50 for a packet of four pieces, but now paid the same for three.

Consumer Reports did a bit on this several months ago, and even local news programs covered it as well.

I'm all too familiar with

downsizing and its ramifications to our everyday economic lives. I suppose I was just hoping that Miele (Claro) might be a hold-out. Swishful thinking at best. Interesting review on German DW detergents, tho' I couldn't understand a word except brand names, and that Claro 5 was, indeed, dead last in the rankings.

I did notice on Amazon.com (link below) that one can buy a 7 box lot of Somat 1 tabs for $135.00/ with free shipping. At 22 tabs per box, that's $1.14/load, or cut in half (if possible).57/load. One box is $12.99 + shipping. Roughly .70/load if one figures $2.00 shipping.

If its those Somat 1 tabs they can keep it. Too expensive and doesnt wash all that well. I do like the Claro made tabs that Miele sold under their name. But I notice that the Cascade Complete All in 1 tabs clean just as well if not better. But like I said if its the Somat 1 tabs dont bother.

Miele DW tabs

I have box of the Miele dishwasher tabs. I have found them to be the best I have ever used. I keep a box of Cascade for light loads and use the Miele for heavy loads. There is a noticable difference with of all things coffee stains. Also the stainless flatware and cookware are noticebly brighter with the Miele. I am using them in a six year old TOL BOSCH. The LaPearla is still in the garage :).

Hal left me for the new Miele gallery in Scottsdale, so I lost my Miele man.
