Congratulations on the purchase of your Excella! Miele makes a good Dishwasher. I also have a LaPerla and use the Sensor wash cycle for many loads. Mine works a bit different than nmassman44 in that it will not change the water between the pre rinse and wash if it finds the dishes are not dirty. Instead it just releases the detergent into the pre rinse water and goes directly into the main wash. For dirty loads it inserts a rinse between the first after rinse, and final rinse so that you get three after rinses. It will also insert a rinse when using the Economy cycle if the load is dirty(even though the manual never mentions this). My machine is older so it is probably following older programming.
For me the strongest program seems to be the cheese/starch cycles because it provides a 25 minute heated pre wash before the main wash and the speed of the wash arms seem to be faster. I think it uses the same 168F to 170F temperature as pots and pans.

Glassware with no detergent or rinse Aid: I think this is a program designed to keep the head on beer from drooping. If you don’t drink beer you can always use a bit of detergent.
Have fun trying the different cycles and let us know how your Sensor wash and the other programs work and please post some before and after pictures too!

Heavy Wash Night

Tonight will be Heavy Wash + Pre-Soak + Extended Dry. I'll try to remember to grab some before and after pix.

Loaded

Middle Rack. Pan is from Pork Chops prepared last night. Been sitting for 24 hours. Should be a fair challenge.

Umm, Malcolm, why did you partially block that clear little bowl with the corning ware pot when you still had so much room left elsewhere in the top rack?

Correct! In Germany, this cycle is actually called Beer Glasses.

Temperature Selection

I noticed in the manual that you can change the temperature from C to F. Can't find where the temperature is ever displayed on the control panel, so what is this used for?

Anyone have a clue?

Malcolm

Hi
I have a G 1832 (Euro version of La Perla II). I do get a temperature on the control panel with most programmes (e.g. 'Forte 65°' aka 'Heavy Soil' etc).
You probably don't need such 'intensive' programmes for the types of load you showed in the picture, mrb. The Sensor wash, the Energysave 45° (i.e. Economy) or the Standard 55° (you might want to add 'Soak' to that) would take care of them no problem, guaranteed!! :)

Temperature display

Hi mrb,
the reason you don't get temperatures because the software is set to the USA version. On my G2830 it shows temps, but I changed the country version to EUR, which changes the programme sequence on the Normal cycle. The country versions available are
AUS-Australia
JPN-Japan
USA
EUR-Europe
SER-South East Europe
I/E - Italy/Spain
What happens when you change the country is the programme sequences are modified for that country's particular requirements. For example if you set the country to I/E, the sensor wash temperature range goes from 45 - 70 degrees C vs a max of 65 in the EUR mode. The reason being in Italy and Spain they need to tackle more stubborn starch soiling such as pasta and rice
I now have the G 2834 and the Sensor wash has been modified from the first version. I like the Turbo function which gives a hotter wash and cuts the programme time down.

Hi Mielerod69
according to my (Italian) instructions manual for the G1832, the Sensor Wash programme has a temperature range of 40-65°.

Malcolm

When I first purchased my G2830 I called USA Miele technical and asked about the lack of temperature display. They said the same thing that Rod has shared - country dependent. I tried changing the country code to EUR and ran a few loads, but found that the program durations increased and I got no better results with the increased time, so I returned to the USA setting.

I would also suggest running that same type of load with the sensor Wash program just to see what the results might be.

I noticed the font size of the words on your display. Do all of the screens use that same font size or is that only used on the options screen?

Screen Fonts

Ya know... I haven't noticed a difference in the size of the font on the display. So, I assume they are all the same size.

Once I have tried most if not all of the programs, I will probably settle for a select 2 or 3 that will be used on a regular basis.

I really like the removable

tins/racks. This would be very helpful when washing large pieces. What I like especially with this Miele is the cutlery rack. Does this special rack eliminates spitting since the cutlery does not touch each other?
John

Malcolm, do you find the Miele cleans well when you double stack items, like say, a bowl over a cup on the top rack? Or when dishes in general just overlap each other on either rack? Some modern machines seem to have a problem with this!!
