After acquiring the 1960s Miele Dishwasher last week, a further, 1970s model joined the fold at the weekend - this is model G550. I remember seeing these in magazine adverts when a teenager and coveting them, I just had to wait forty years to get one!

This has had the top removed to fit under a counter but otherwise seemed to be in good condition although I have not had time to try it out yet. It has the familiar Miele rotary timeline, the selector knob does not rotate fully but rather goes to "8 o'clock" on one side and "4 o'clock" on the other. The racks look to be in remarkably good condition.

An Interesting Example

What a superb find! Fingers crossed all works well - those spray arms in particular look nice and beefy, and certainly capable of producing a "veritable flood of water" for those dirty dishes.

However, I must add - the Miele I "played" with in Norway had identical racking (aside from a cutlery rack). That Miele was produced sometime during the 2000's, per the account of other AW members. Either Miele was happy with this racking arrangement, or never thought to come up with something different.

Following this, I then had the opportunity to use a Bosch machine from the 1970's (also sold as Hotpoint in the UK). This had semi-similar racking to what I had found in the previous Miele, from nearly 30yrs later.

Suffice it to say, I found it curious that two separate entities had very similar arrangements for racking, both back in the 1970s or 80s, and carrying forward to the next century...

Looking forward to seeing this old girl (if such a thing can be said) stuffed to the gills with every last (dirty) dish you can scrounge for her maiden voyage!

G550

I love that lower spray arm.

It appears that those nozzles were articulately placed for precise coverage. You can visualize the spray direction out of each nozzle.

The owner's kitchen has a 15 year old Miele Dishwasher. The Lower Racking is almost the same. It is amazingly quiet. You really have to listen closely and intently to hear if it's washing. Her machine has the cutlery tray on top.

A Very Handsome Machine. Good Luck with your New Find.

Eddy took the words outta my mouth.

That's the most effective-looking, coolest dishwasher spray arm I've seen in a long time. Makes me want to go out and buy a Miele dishwasher. I think Miele's vintage orange and black on brushed chrome styling is deliciously classic and ergonomically brilliant.

My issues with Miele dishwashers are that the baskets always seem smaller, less capacious( if that's even a word) than many American machines and their design seems to favor fine-china-ey dishes and delicate glassware more than for the bulky-crafty clunky stuff with which we Americans seem to be outfitting our kitchens and dining tables these days. I was telling someone just the other day that I inherited two complete and beautiful sets of China from some family members, but I haven't taken them out of their packing boxes yet.

I wish they would make a "Chef's Dishwasher" like the ones Asko and GE used to make.

Super strong wash power!

When I was base in London with Pan Am,our flat had a model like this! This is also a hurricane in a box! This spray arm was more like a presser washer! Light weight pots were turned over in this machine.Hey vacbear58 How about a forbidden video!
