Miele has A.I?

Been doing some loads in the Miele lately and have noticed some strange differences in the same cycle with the same modifiers.

 

When we first purchased the machine, I set up "Water Plus" for an Extra-Rinse plus a higher water level. The water level in the rinses on Cottons was always to the lip of the tub, just touching the glass. Lately, the level has increased to half-way up the glass!? So I get 3 rinses and 3 good intermediate spins! Hooray!

 

Then there is Delicates. I also setup the "Cooldown" function on the washer. When I use Delicates for Undergarments/Socks, I wash at 50º with no modifiers. Typically, the machine has added water at the end of the Main-Wash, drained some, added some several times to achieve Cool-Down.

When I ran the cycle the other day, it didn't do this, even though it has in the past.

 

So what's the verdict? Is the Miele learning my loading patterns and adapting to them, or has it "lost its marbles?" (The water levels on others cycles have remained the same, so the pressure switch can't be broken).

Its not so much that it learns your patterns as it senses what you're washing.

The Miele's measure absorption (How much water is required to satisfy the pressure switch, initial fill + subsequent fills) and also how quickly the temperature of the rinse water increases in the first rinse. (how heavy the fabrics are and therefore the amount of heat/water that may still be in them.)

If the Spin speed is below 600rpm or the wash temp is above 60degC that will also trigger an additional rinse in addition to the other parameters that are also measured.

So depending on your wash temp, the load size and the type of fabrics, every rinse level can be different.

If you switch it to Euro mode in the service settings you'll notice even bigger swings in the water level.

Water levels

I have the new W5873WPS with EcoFeedback function. I like that it tells me how much energy and water the machine has used at the end of the cycle. I did a medium load of towels on Cottons with water plus and extra rinse and the machine used 91 litres of water. That's what I like. Even on Min Iron it used 72 litres on the last wash I did which was full for that programme.
This model also has a maintenance programme which cleans the drum out in 43 minutes at 75°C

Switch to Euro Mode:

Exactly how would I accomplish this, and exactly what would parts of the programming would it be changing? If cycle lengths aren't drastically increased, I'm more than happy to make some changes for better rinsing and washing performance!

 

I've also never noticed an additional rinse being implemented above 60º - although the fairly light load of my bedding probably wouldn't have needed an additional rinse on top of the 2 + Water Plus that were already selected prior.

 

This morning, the machine was running on a Cottons 40º + Water Plus and 1400rpm spin. The first rinse was now 1/4 up the glass with subsequent rinses just touching the door boot, unlike the load of "rag" towels (for the dog), floor mops etc that were washed with 60º and Water Plus which I reported on above.

To be honest, I like this variation in the cycling. Its great to see the machine can adapt its water usage to people's clothes. Now if they added a soil and detergent sensor, we'd have shorter cycles and far better rinsing with lower water usage.
