So, how do the Miele detergents rate compared to the Persil brand? I was given a free box of Miele powder when I purchased my set. Just cracked into it this morning. Any thoughts or preferences between the two?

I have used the Miele detergents for whites, colors and the liquid detergent for colors, as well as their fabric softener and detergents for dedicates and sport wash.

IMO:

The detergent for whites cleans almost as well as Persil Megaperls for whites although I sometimes added about 1/2 teaspoon more for heavy soiled whites.  The detergent for colors is just as good as Persil Megaperls colors and does not contain optical brighteners. The liquid for colors is foamy but is supposed to work well on oil - it actually does remove oily stains when you pour it directly on them and launder in warm to hot water.

The detergent for dedicates works well and leaves everything smelling good.  Same with the sport wash although it is no better than any other sport wash IMO.

You use way less Miele fabric softener compared to standard softeners and still  get the same soft impact and a fresh scent.  I cannot define the scent it just smells soft and nice.

I tend to use a few different softeners so it takes a while to finish them and during last winter I found that the Miele softener had thickened to the point that I could not use it.  This may be because my laundry area is in the basement which is in the low 60's in the winter.  I am going to buy another bottle and use it throughout the summer

Miele detergents are made by the  Kreussler company in Weisbaden Germany.

My Miele vacuum dealer

usually has both Persil and Miele Care Collection. However, when I got my Capricorn almost two years ago (eeek, I think it's still new---) He was out of Persil Colour Megaperls, so I got the Miele detergent for colors....and I think it's a Very Good Detergent. Even in a toploader.

Just my experience.

My guess and this is only a guess, is that the Miele detergents are some form of the Trebon line that is listed on the web site and perhaps some of the Ottalin CL stuff  since it is oxygen bleach and the detergent for whites contains this and perhaps some form of the COLOFIX line designed to retain  dyes on textiles.

Miele says that their detergents are  Zeolite free, which Persil does(at least my last box had it) contain, I think to soften the water.   Could also be that the Miele detergent is nothing like this other stuff, but at least we know it is  produced by a company that probably knows what it is doing.

You can order online from Miele USA from their miserably slow web site, but my local appliance store carries both Persil and Miele so I get it locally.  The Miele stuff is slightly cheaper.

Ignore the package dosage recommendations.  For me their recommendation is way TOO much for my needs.  I use about the same amount of Miele as Persil so you will need to try it a few times to hit the right amount for your soil.

I tried adding hot water to the FS  but when I returned the next week it was solidified again, which makes me think it is do the the cold temp in my basement.  What would really help is if I had a good way to mix it.  I added hot water shook it in a bottle but there were still clumps floating in the water.  The thing is that this will go from the dispenser and into the last rinse ok and I have not seen any deposits on anything but I don't like clumps of FS being introduced into the tub.

I really do like their FS because it softens and smooths well and has a light undefinable scent which is why I am buying it as soon as it gets warm again.

Speaking of Persil colour powder have they added an optical brightener? On the box it looks like they have yet they have excluded it on the liquids and liquitabs for colours.

I have tried the Miele liquid and think its excellent but you have to order it online which is a pain.

Oh i see. Would that be the Henkel brand? I used Henkel brand Persil in Greece once and it bleached my light pink t shirt. UK bio persil never did this so they must of used non colour safe bleach.

Yes that's the brand. They make detergents for whites that may well bleach out colors because they don't recommend using it on medium to dark colors. They make a different detergent for colors which has a type of color transfer inhibitor, and a liquid detergent for darks like black and blues.

Miele has the same set up, one for whites, one for colors, but they don't make one for darks.

Miele also sells detergent for waterproofing fabrics( I think their example is to use it for outer wear) and they sell a detergent formulated to clean down.

Just checked the Miele USA web site and see that there is a new formulation of the fabric softener. Information says that it allows better pourability of the product, so I wonder if others have had trouble with this FS becoming thick.
Maybe I will order some this month.

I'm going to be up near the Miele dealer tomorrow and will see what they have. The nice thing about the siphon dispensers is that they won't let clumps of softener go through into the cylinder, but it's nice that they tried to improve it. Since this delaer sold Persil products years ago when I bought my machines, they probably also have the Persil brand of softener. Should I try that also or is it just too expensive?

I find that the Vernel softener does ok but the scent lingers...this is the Henkel German softener mate to Persil. Now the Miele detergents I tried them but wasnt impressed. I still love Persil. What is interesting is the fact that German Persil is marketed to the masses in Mexico. I am wondering if and when the agreement that Henkel has with Miele to import German Persil, what they will do when the agreement expires. I hate spending $50+ on detergent and even though I know it does a great job I find that Tide HE powder does just as well and even Tide W/Bleach HE powder does well. And for less.
The Miele softener made by Kressler does thicken up after a period of time. I have not bought that in a few years now.

I've been wondering about that agreement expiration also. Perhaps they will just make another agreement but if they don't and Henkel wants to sell Persil in the USA they could just sell it though their own company here in the USA - Purex. I doubt this will happen though.

I have used Vernel purchased from Miele, but I also have purchased it from the Drugstore.com. The ones from Drugstore.com were from the Aroma Therapy line and they really smelled good. The ones I liked the most were: Waterlily and Lemongrass, Hibiscus and Rose and Wild Rose. These left a pleasant scent in your clothes that was not overbearing. I tried to purchase them again a few months ago but they were not available.

I did order the Miele softener from Miele after writing my post above. I want to try the new formulation.

Miele Carecollection 2 Fabric Softener

I Googled this. All prices are for 2 Liters (67 oz) for 66 loads. It is $16.95 at Total Vac, $42.00 at Sears and $18 at Amazon (sold by GoVacuum). I think that if I buy two from Amazon, I would get the free shipping. Is this what you ordered, Jerrod, from Miele? I looked this up so I would have a basis of comparison at the Miele dealer tomorrow.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge and personal experience.
