Miele Twin Dos delayed cheesy smell on items

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

I remember buying a pack of Lidl dishwasher pods and finding the scent so strong I had to keep them outside!

I dont use twins-dos much preferring to keep liquid persil in a squirt bottle and dose myself into the liquid detergent insert in the tray.

I only bought the twindos unit because I believed I could use a generic insert - which turned out to be incorrect.

It was pretty mean of them to not make the refillable tank cartridges available in the US.
I wonder was the logic just creation of a consumables market, or if they just were unprepared to unclog lines due to sparse repair crews?

There’s a pair of peristaltic pumps (a tube with a roller) which can clog if used with gloopier liquids but isn’t a massive ordeal to clean out as it’s literally a clear tube on a roller, similar to what you might have seen in a hospital on a dialysis machine.

Either way, it’s turned it into a different product in Europe and North American markets.

I find I have largely given up on it though. I don’t find the auto dosing all that compelling as a feature and I haven’t been over enamoured with their detergents. There’s a lot to be said for mass market top of the line. I’ve a tendency to manufacturers of machines and detergents to remain separate entities.

I’ve also found the detergent cartridges have leaked quite a bit on occasion - not entirely convinced by it as a system. A lot of the other washing machine makers in Europe use auto dose that you just fill into the drawer and to me it seems like a far less complicated way of doing things.

Their detergents packs aren’t all that convenient either as mostly you have to order them online. I’m only aware of two retailers around here who stock them and you certainly can’t just throw a couple in with your groceries, so it means having to go to a specific website or having to go to physically pick them up. It’s convenient online but also just another thing I have to do that I forget to do and they’re quite expensive compared to a pack of Persil or Ariel (or Bold or Daz) one of which is invariably on a promotional offer. Also the store brands in some cases are absolutely excellent and significantly cheaper.

Prices are going up across the board, and I just feel I should be watching the pennies - overpriced laundry detergent isn’t really a high priority.

Well, my 2017 machine regularly has pools of detergent flooding the dispenser area, which is why I’ve given up using the feature. It seems to be inconsistencies in the bottles’ seals rather than the machine. One is fine, the next leaks. Got fed up cleaning it out and gave up. Back to powder and putting in the liquids.

I don't have any problem with Miele Twin Dos or Miele detergents. They clean well, rinse ok, I don't need much, nothing smells, so that's all I care about. I do like to use powder detergents and sports wash from time to time, so I alternate Twin Dos with those. So far have not had leaky bottles.

Reply #18 Lidl W5 dishwasher pods

Regarding the Lidl W5 Dishwasher pods:

I've managed to get through the pack of 'diagonal style' pods - but all is not well.

These pods leave a dull powdery film over everything - dishes, cutlery, dishwasher door/walls/floor. Crockery doesn't feel squeaky clean when handled.

Both the two different styles of pod/pouch (diagonal design, and the 'T' shape) apparently are made by detergent company SPB of Spain and Germany, with the same formulation.

Miele Twin Dos Smell

I just purchased a Miele WXF660 Washing Machine and have to totally agree with the comments that the Aqua Dos 1 smells. I contacted Miele and they said the only other option was to buy the sensitive detergent but they do not offer an alternative for the basic detergent other than Aqua? I have turned off the Twin Dos feature and will continue to use Persil Megapearl powder which has an amazing scent and the clothes come out clean and smell fresh without any chemical smell.

Christopher, have you tried to wash the same clothes several times with the TwinDos detergent? I wonder if your new washer and detergent is washing out built up funk/permastink?

Also, the Miele detergent is fantastic but VERY concentrated. The dosage recommended in the manual is way too high. Try setting it to around 20 ml for UltraPhase 1 and 15 for UltraPhase 2.

Twin Dos

Yes, I set the proper settings on the detergent dosage but find the over all scent unpleasant!! You can still smell it on the clothes once put away and then worn days later? If only we could get original tide scent from back in the day, LOL.

The scent is indeed very strong, too strong in fact for my household. The sensitive version is wonderful but also very expensive.

What works extremely well for me is Tide Ultra Stain Release Free in the phase 1 cartridge and Ecover non-chlorine bleach in the phase 2 cartridge.

If you like Tide, empty out the cartridge and get yourself a funnel and refill several times with some water to rinse out remaining detergent and then refill with the detergent of your choice.

Amazing!

I use Twin Dos detergents, my washer drains into a laundry sink, and I don't smell anything. I also use Persil Megaperls and Persil Pro Clean liquid and don't smell anything left over from these either. I must have a lead nose. I wonder if water composition has anything to do with this.

I'm the same as Jerrod, I use twin dos and find no smell after drying, my amounts were adjusted way down by Miele when they were out doing a service.

For our moderately soft water, I have Twin Dos set as follows:
Phase 1 24mL
Phase 2 18mL

Could it be reacting with water chemistry to create a smell, or are the dosages a lot higher?

Dosage

I have mine set to the default 46 ml for Ultraphase 1 and 36 ml for Ultraphase 2. What I did was to default the soil level to light instead of normal. This way it reduces the detergent dispensed by 30%. I have not had any issues with sudsing or strong-smelling laundry. Granted I nearly always use water plus.
