I was wiping and cleaning my machine, and for the first time I noticed at the top of the door bellows is the light (works) and beside that, there is a white plastic valve? It seems to have an opening pointed towards the drum.

Having previously had a front loader with a recirculating pump, this kinda looks like it is an outlet for recirculation...

I've never seen that happening in the drum during operation though. Any ideas what it may be?

Miele had a glass washing valve on most of their FLs since they used motorised water path selection I think - so some time in the W4xx days in EU? Or maybe the W2xxx series?

Anyway, that was used to wet the glass door and laundry touching it as well as allowing the pre fill to fill the sump so the ball valve closes and no detergent is wasted.

Later, that plastic fill port was also used for a steam generator connection on machines equipped with it.

If you go to Mieles website, than spare parts, to the full spare parts selection tool, search for the W4800, third page with the door boot, position 41 and 42:
