MIele W919 WPS - knocking noise!

Dear all,

I have a W919 WPS. Its in good condition, recently I replaced the friction dampers.

However now I am getting a 'knocking noise' when the machine is turning, at first I thought it was something inside the drum, i.e. an article of clothing I had placed inside, but it seems to be getting more frequent, at the moment I have only sheets inside on a soak wash, and it is 'knocking' every time the drum turns.

The drive belt was squeaking the other day too but this seems to have disappeared now. I have the lid off and can't see anything obvious. It does not seem to make this noise when spinning, only when the drum is turning during the wash cycle.

Like I said, otherwise the machine is working to spec.

Any ideas? I'll try and record the noise the machine is making and upload to YouTube or similar.

Usually, this points to something stuck between tub and drum. In certain configurations, for example collar stays can get stuck arround the heater in a way they rub against the drum. As speed increases, they are pushed away&#92 the frequency gets to high to really cause a noise.

How ever, this can be a broken spider or bearing, too. Knocking bearings usually occur in the opposite manner: during spin and not during wash.
Though most extremly rare, some of these machines develop spider issues. And, as sad as it is, as long as you don't find a spare machine, you are most likely not interested to buy a new spider.

Lets hope that Murphys law does not bite again.

Many thanks for your answer. The noise however has disappeared with an empty drum. I too think it is/ was something stuck in between the drum and tub, Any ideas on how to access this space? Miele suggsted it may be a bra wire, but we always wash such items in a wash bag. I always remove my collar stays too and am not missing any. I don't think its a spider issue. I have made a video and will post on youtube this evening.

With these you would have to pull out the entire tub to really access that area. But you could just pull the heater out and check for anything suspicious. Pretty straight forward job.
If the noise is gone now, you could check the coin trap and see if anything got caught.

You can always remove

The ball valve at the bottom.
You can get a few fingers inside.

You can remove the heating element to have a peek inside.
