Miele wash rhythms

I have a Miele WT 2670 washer dryer - fantastic machine...
I have a question about wash rhythms. According to the programme sequence information in my instruction book (and the ones for e.g. W1511/1512, W4144/4146) there are only four wash rhythms: Normal (for Cottons, Express, Minimum Iron etc), Delicate, Wool and Silk. The Instruction book for e.g. W4147 (virtually identical to W4146) and W16113 mention extra wash rhythms (intensive for Cottons, normal for Minumum Iron and Express, etc). My sister's got a W4147 and I haven't spotted any differences in wash rhtyhms from my WT2670. Am I missing something or is this another marketing ploy?

Do all these machines that you mentioned, have the same style of drum? Maybe the newer honeycomb drum machines require modified agitation, versus the conventional style of drum.

Alternatively, maybe the drum rhythm changes at certain points ONLY if certain conditions are met. I know that in my Zanussi, for example, the machine inserts spin-bursts into some of the rinses but only if fully loaded with absorbent cottons. Any other time, it just does conventional tumbling.

Cotton spin wash

I thought the intensive wash for cottons would speed up to an almost spin in both directions. Thought there was a video on youtube displaying this behavior.

Both my WT2670 and the W4176 have the new honeycomb drum.

Wash Action............

Hi- Is the video in the link below the washing action that you mean? They dont always do the Intensive action for Cottons like this, just for larger and more absorbant loads, maybe thats why you havent seen it do this yet

I think their theory behind this is that a small load would get a less effective wash if the intensive action wash used

what's the difference between wool and silk rythms ?
I guessed that the only very difference was the lack of interim spins after each step in silk cycle.

I don't think it's just a marketing trick : even my "old" novotronic has several rhytms & speeds in the very same cycle.
They are
- normal : (5.5 @ 55 rpm + 5.5 @ 40 rpm) seconds of tumbling / 4 pause
- delicate 8/7 @ 40 rpm
- handwash 3/12 @ 40 rpm

I. e. minimum iron starts with a 8/7 pattern while clothes adsorbe water, then after the (optional) water plus extrafilling the pattern is 11/4. After heating goes back to 8/7 and some minutes before the cool down goes to 3/12 (meaning revolution seconds/pause seconds).

The 11/4 pattern is actually 5.5 secs @ 55 rpm, 5.5 @ 40 rpm then 4 secs pause

I' ve noticed this :
- in case of small loads that don't require showering the whole 11 seconds are @ 55 rpm
- when oversudsing the pattern switches from 11/4 to 8/7 (all 8 secs @ 40 rpm )

Anyway I've downloaded the new W5835 manual. Latest softronics are far more sophisticated than my novotronic...

"Cottons" and "Intensive plus" have intensive rythm
"jeans/denim" "darks" "hygiene plus" "mini/express" have normal rythm

"Minimum iron" and "dress shirts" have delicate rythm

"Syntetics(delicates)","pillows", "duvets", "curtains" have sensitiv rythm

Wool and silk have obiouvsly handwash rythm

The feature i really hate of these new machines is the soak. The soak is a long prewash, while the older machines as mine used the same water for soak and main wash

Yes, I was just wondering why in some manuals it is called 'normal' (and the same label is used with reference to Minimum Iron, Shirts and Outdoor garments), whereas in others it's called 'intensive' (and the Minimum Iron one is called 'normal').
Favorit, the Silk and the Wool wash rhythms look the same to me (except for the absence of interim spins in the Silk programme)

I wouldn't read into those manuals too much, as I don't believe they are that black and white.

For example Darks is marked as "normal" but it doesn't use the same rhythm as Express

The tumbling action on Darks a very slow and gentle.. although if they down-graded it to a "Gentle" rhythm in the manual, it still wouldn't be the same as another programs in its category.

Wool and Silk are different too
They both complete 1 and a third turns but Wool only tumbles every 2 mins whilst on Silk it's every 10 seconds. (I think!)

And as Rich said.. The Cottons program won't wash with an 'Intensive' rhythm if it's not a full load. So the manual could be marked up with more that one rhythm for Cottons.

On my W4144wps I would say that every program has a different washing rhythm!
With the exception of Express (seems similar to Min Iron).... and Automatic, which uses another programs rhythm based on what its detected in the load.
