Asking $450 for each ( $900 in total for the set ) is kind of ridiculous. Even a TOL Maytag set from the early 60's in good condition isn't even worth that much. They are worth something, but they are not worth that much.

I remember seeing a Maytag set for sale on the Los Angeles Craigslist from the early 70's, and it said "RARE 60's Maytag washer and dryer set", and they were asking a whopping $800 for the set. I believe it was a Maytag A306 set, but this set wasn't in any kind show room condition at all. The washer had a massive dent on the front panel, and they had a bunch of stuffs and scratches on them, and looked like they needed a lot of cosmetic work done to them.

Since people are asking ridiculous amounts of money for this kind of stuff, this might explain why I am having difficulty on trying to obtain a vintage Maytag washer and halo of heat dryer set.

Cared for

beautifully though.
I recall my aunt having a white set in Ann Arbor. I'm sure the seven cousins laundry wore them out, but they still had them in the mid 1970's.

California prices

on real estate is one thing. White goods depreciate like most cars do, but at least they are vintage classics. Maybe should be museum pieces. Same for GM Frigidaire control top laundry circa 1957.

The good points ---

Those do look pretty minty, or mint adjacent. I see little to no corrosion or rust around the back panel & water valve or tell-tale oil stain on the floor is promising. The darker colors showed more scratches, gouges and chemical/water marks, but these look pretty decent from the pics. While the brown may be somewhat under-appreciated, it's rare to find nonetheless.

IIRC, the A502 Highlander has a soak cycle and the dispenser-filter agitator & white basket. TOL features, and the pilot light above the dial adds sparkle to the somewhat utilitarian panel.

Prices can be worked out, but at least they will have an opportunity to be saved. Thanks for posting here, Anna. Are there any interesting kitchen appliances in the house? The laundry room looks like a time capsule.

No money shots of the dryer drum and back with the rear cover taken off-lets see the guts of both machines before spending that boutique prices of $450 each!-How do we know the insides aren't corroded out?Are they hiding something?Or do these machines have something valueable hidden inside?A prize like in CrackerJack?

If the inside of both machines look as good as the outside, someone who loves vintage Maytags, and has a lot of disposable income, or is ready to blow $900, he or she might pay the asking price for these.

If I had the room, and if I were close enough, and had $900.00 to blow, I would do it.

Would that be a wise investment? Probably not, but to someone who really wants them, this is like finding a vintage Corvette, in perfect condition, with low mileage...

You can't blame the seller for asking that price. Someone might pay. He is probably expecting some negociation anyways before a deal is made.
