In what has become a something of a tradition, I'm hosting a "Thanksgiving Practice Run" dinner later today. It's my chance to practice smaller amounts of everything I'll make for actual Thanksgiving. At any rate, I'm not big on candied yams (smothered in mini marshmallows, as is customary in small-town Minnesota), but one of my guests loves them, so I picked up a can.

It says sweet potatoes/yams on the label, but inside it's cut green beans! Had to share this anomaly with you. Don't recall it ever happening to me, before.

Eugene e-mail Allen's with this picture. The corporate office is here. They should be ashamed of this mislabel. The can code on the can should have stopped the labeling system. Allen's has filed for bankruptcy but still operating.

Here is link to their web page.

"Stuff like that is a sign.."

It has turned out to be a very odd day.

1) The mislabeled can of sweet potatoes.

2) The smoke alarm in my laundry room went off three times; no smoke, no funny smells, no laundry appliance was being used.

3) I'm on my 2nd load of dishes from the Thanksgiving Practice Run dinner, and the LG has stopped heating water.  It usually runs shorter than the prescribed time, but I noticed the first load ran long.  I'd selected the 160-degree final rinse, and when I opened the door at the beginning of the dry cycle to flash-dry the contents, there was almost no steam and the dishes weren't as hot as they should be.  Just opened the door in the middle of the main wash on load #2 (water heats to 140 degrees) and water is about 115.  I think the LG has figured out it's going to be replaced and is rebelling, LOL.

Earlier today, I attended the funeral of a friend who passed away after battling COPD for seven years.  I'm beginning to think he's messing with me from the other side.

Good one, Andy!  I used the unexpected can of green beans to make a Three Bean Salad for lunches this week.  As a teenager, I'd shake my head in disbelief when my mom would use several dollars worth of groceries to make something simply because she didn't want to throw out 1/4 cup of juice from a can of pineapple.  Now, I find myself doing the same thing, LOL.

Charles: Thanks for the link to Allen's; think I will send them a photo of the mix-up.  Wonder how many people are going to be surprised when then open their cans of yams on Thanksgiving morning?  I shopped at a number of stores during the past week, so I'm not sure if it came from Hy-Vee, WalMart, Fareway Foods, or Cub Foods.
