Norgeway’s post about his excellent Sunbeam collection reminded me that I have a question I’ve been meaning to ask. I bought this Sunbeam hand mixer years ago because it was in such good shape cosmetically and I really liked the styling. It can't have been used much by the previous owners and to be honest I haven't used it much either. It seems woefully underpowered and tends to bog down far too easily. Is this a normal trait for these guys or does mine have an issue that needs attention. I've thought about opening it up and cleaning the commutator to see if that helps at all, but if you folks tell me that they're all underpowered I won't bother.
The second issue is that the last time I went to use it I was surprised to find the cord cracked up and down its entire length. It's unfortunate because the original cord has the neat little Sunbeam name molded into the plug and a replacement won’t. Nevertheless, I need a replacement cord and would like to find one that’ll look at home on it and not shout 'replacement cord' at me every time I use it. I'd really like this to be a usable mixer, so any advice on either issue will be greatly appreciated.
