This is the first dishwasher I got my fingers on and was in very bad condition. By mistake I painted it black to match my other appliances. Works great though. So it is banished to the storage. Mike

What year is this one, Mike? Is the cutlery basket suspended on the cabinet wall or does it fit into the rack? If it's in the rack, is this one of the models that had the wee spray arm underneath the cutlery basket??

Black GE

The basket is in the bottom rack and no small spray arm under it. Have never seen one of those YET. I think early on for the pump not impeller wash. The holes in the spray arm are diamond shaped & hugh compared to today. Moves so much water things blow around. Dishes must have been heavier back then. Mike

Noticed the wash arms and the power tower - not sure when they were first introduced...
My next-door neighbors when I was a brat had a GE front-load portable (not a convertible model) that had the <silver shower> spray arm under the cutlery basket. I wanted to die when they threw it out and I missed it...

Black appliances.

The 1950s Frigidaire Charcoal color looked great, but how about the black used in the 1980s in TOL Kenmores? Also, am I the only one who would love to see a black Maytag 806 set?

Dave

I think the Maytag would look good in black. There is something about the Maytag look that--to my eyes--works better with white than common vintage colors. I'd have to guess that black, too, would work, and would probably be something I'd like better. I don't really like white as a rule.

I have to say that if there were a set of stainless 806's, I would lust after them. Anything shiny. Stainless with a black porcelain tub, turquoise agitator and chrome lint filter. Or just chrome the whole cabinet.
