Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

JC Penny had these in there appliance department in the 70's.  I always thought how many cakes fell because you started baking a cake and filled the DW and started it.  That would shake the cake right down.  I guess was good for smll kitchens.

The dishwasher did not shake and it fit into a frame below the cooktop, the stove was way too heavy to be supported by a dishwasher, even if it had a metal frame like old KitchenAids had. The oven on this stove was very large for an eye-level oven. John was called out for one where someone replaced the porcelain tank dw with a plastic tub machine. The first time they used the cooktop, the plastic tub sagged to where it was rurnt, as they say in the South. That dishwasher was tore up. Fortunately most metal tank dishwashers without a frame would fit in the place of the D&M so it was an easy fix and lucky for them that John had a large older WP dishwsher collection.

My partner had one of these in his Mobile/Manufactered Homes, usually ones built in the 60/70's, but what a great idea for saving space, I also recall a very slim refrigerator, and the Hoover TT washer/dryer in the bathroom closet

Neat! I remember they were the jackpot prize on a Canadian game show called "It's Your Move"... I saw one once at the home of a former co-worker - they were ripping it out of their kitchen. Sigh - wish I had the foresight to have saved it!

The manufacturer, Modern Maid, made these and they were popular back in the mid 70's. many of the condos and apartment complexes had them and they did well as long as mice, rats or roaches didn't decide to congregate or move in.The oven was a basic continuous clean with up to 500F setting or broil. there were three different dishwasher models to chose from but, most buyers got the best one with 10 pushbuttons. When Goodman A/C took over the Raytheon appliance divisions,Modern Maid and Speed Queen were left on the table.Maytag got Amana.Just before that when Raytheon got SQ, there was another line of the "range that washes dishes" with the SQ label on them.

Wow, that's pretty wild. If that design could be tweaked for good performance and reliability, it would sell like hotcakes!

Very 70's. My best friends folks back in the day had one in their then new house. Not sure if all the houses in that sub came with one or not or where you would even buy one, not like Modern Maid was a big seller or even that well known around here. They made the downdraft stoves for Sears though... aka the Jenn Air clones iirc.
