While at my mom's shoveling snow I checked the Model of Kenmore she's been using. Now some 21 years old I think.
Kenmore 70 model# 11082673110
When was it made?

She gave up her 606A maytag (gave it to me) when she got the kenmore.

This is a direct drive. Not a problem these years, in fact much more reliable than the maytag was/is... Does anyone know of issues, is there some preventive maintainance I should perform on it to keep it going for her? For instance an oring on a gearbox (like the maytags) that should be replaced, or bearings etc that should be lubed...

I did clean up the fabric softener dispenser, it was not draining, was clogged with goop.

1986 is the birth year. Kenmore64 can probably nail it down to the month. Unless the Kenmore is leaking or sounds like it's struggling to agitate (thick, dirty trans oil) it would probably be best to leave it alone. When you have some time to kill, run it through a fully loaded cycle and watch the top half of the agitator. If isn't turning with great authority, or at all, replace the dogs and seals in the agitator. The entire kit is very cheap on ebay.

My mother's 1984 DD Searks Kenmore 24" (60cm) top-loader ran until last year without a repair. So it had a great run for 24 years. Taht include my and my sisters bringing over our laundry and running 6 loads in succession. [We were much younger and renting then! LOL].

My understanding is that it was simply a coupler that needed replacing, and that it is a common thing. We chose to send it to the Krusher. I had nowhere to store it or keep it or play with it, or I would have.

Mother Toggles just LOVES her new Frigidaire front-loader. She believes them to wash better as did her mother.

While visitng relatives in Greece she saw them ram the machines so full, one could barely close the door. So she now has less fear of "overloading" her new electric servant.

The best "feature" of those DD models is watching the (basement) lights dim with each change of direction of the agitator!

..And that was very quick due to the number of strokes per minute! (Can you say "Shredmore"?)
