i had to remove to fix the leaking drain hose was nothing like any clamp i have ever seen before!

oh well, you win some and lose some in this game of appliance collecting! this is the first machine i have ever bought that leaks with pretty much no way to fix it!

the top removes and you find the fill solonoid at the top back of the machine.

faucet coupler looks

like it's in good shape, outside of being dirty. it has the small diam. opening inside which makes me wonder if this machine could be as far back as the 60's?

no visible marks to tell you where you are in the cycle. unless you count the magic marker notations. i do hope they come off! makes it look terrible!

must have 2 washes in it's cycle. door is in great shape, not one speck of rust, just dirt (as shown here before cleaning).

so, what to do with this little

machine that couldn't!

0) i can pitch it and beat myself up for buying it! (not a good option but i have thought of that today).

1) i can keep it and never run it!

2) i can run the hell out of it and let it leak until it fries the motor! then i can keep it and not run it!

3) i have an idea! i have already gotten in my head how to rig it up with a g.e. potscrubber horizontal motor and pump, discarding this pump and motor altogether.

for now i am going to back off for awhile, probably a few months and then come back to it later. if i go the g.e. pump route it will give me time to perfect it in my head before actually doing it. it would be such a fun dishwasher to actually use on a daily basis, what with it's size and all! perfect for me!

in the meantime if anyone knows who made it or if anyone has any ideas on how to fix it's pump seal area please let me know!

Bizarre! What a fun dishwasher, Japanese made - perhaps Hitachi or Sanyo? Love the smaller size, hopefully you can find parts or make it work. Would love to see that spray arm & tube in action. I'll check my Wards books this weekend and see if I can find the source code information on who made this. UTJ in the model number will signify the manufacturer.

For some reason...

The racks look somewhat reminicent of Fridgidaire. The design of the Spray Arms look somewhat like GE (except the jets are not wide enough if you know what I mean)  The pump definately looks GE'ish.... Humphhhhhh...... Still cute and yup the Magic Marker has to go.  Looks like a sign at the Market to alert something on sale.

The top rack looks very Frigidaire-ish, as does the cover on the detergent dispenser.

I would do option two myself. Run it till it stops. This machine is unique, and funky, would be fun to play with for a while!

As for the magic marker, use light amounts of nail polish remover. It will rid anything of any ink stain or marking!

You can get packing material for valves at plumbing and hardware stores, used to seal around valves. It would not hurt to try of it around the shaft. At least it woould make the leak less severe. I also heard that something called Permanex works on valves too I wonder if it would work on your pump.

wow,haven't seen one of those in ages!-parents bought one at a rummage sale about
1983-worked well enough but was quite loud,even the timer motor was loud-making a
grind-grind-grind noise...Looked like a 1973 date code on the valve.

Hose Clamp . . .

That hose clamp type is pretty common for automotive use. To install and tighten easily there are special tools, otherwise you can use a very small flat bladed screwdriver.

#574982, captures the Montgomery Ward logo, i think its much newer than the 1960's.  The heating element looks like it means serious business.  alr
