montgomery ward "signature" mini maid dishwasher- anyone know who made this please?

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

I certainly wouldn't run it till it fries the motor !!!! what a waste. Gasket papers / card and ruber are available, instant gasket sealants/silicone. I know sometimes leaks are a sod but after 30 years i've not had a leak on a machine that couldn't be fixed.

It looks like a carbon face/rubber diaphram seal to me, surely there'll be one available somewhere. Look for motor/pump manufacturers as any pump that pumps a liquid will have that type of seal on the shaft. You might be lucky and find one that size, other than that find one with the correct shaft size and bond it to the body.

thanks to all for your

tips, info, and advice. i will try nail polish remover on that magic marker writing on the door.

i took some close ups of the seal itself. here they are. it is definately a lip on the top of the seal that snugs against the motor shaft to keep water from leaking. there is a no. on the seal, evident in one pic here at least. it is (y 10 25 13.8 15) not that i have any idea what that signifies!

i used wd 40 on that lip and my finger to push it in and back and maybe soften it up to where it might seal again. just a long shot but worth a try. i also cleaned the motor shaft where it mates with that sealing lip with wd 40 and a cloth to make sure it is perfectly clean. the shaft is stainless steel.

i will put it back one more time and try it out. i can have it all back on the machine in 20 minutes, very easy pump to assemble.

again thanks for the info and tips, if anyone does know anything about these seals, their name, or where to get them please feel free to pass on the advice!

another

shot.

i wonder if it could be leaking around the outer rim of that seal. where the seal seats into the pump housing itself? that would be easy to fix with some gasket sealer i would think.

no there is no carbon face

and spring, just that rubber lip that grabs the motor shaft.

BUT I AM AMZED! IT'S A MIRACLE!!!!!!!!!!!!

I PUT IT ALL BACK TOGETHER TODAY AFTER GENTLY MASSAGING THAT SEAL WITH A GOOD DOSE OF WD-40 AND DECIDED TO TRY IT OUT!!!!!

NO LEAKS AROUND THE MOTOR ANYWHERE!!!!!!!

here are some pics!

here it is filling up with the door open. water comes in at top of back wall in middle. it fills higher than i thought it would.

it does have a noisy timer

with a really loud click. you have to pull out on timer knob to start dishwasher and every time you open door you have to pull it out again once door is locked.

the beginning of the cycle starts with the white mark on the timer dial at the top position.

the position of the timer in this pic (where the lady wrote "start" in black marker) is at the fill for the main 10 min wash.

i am timing a cycle now.

drains are 1 min long
fills are 1 min long.

rinse (or wash) 8.5 min.
rinse 1 min.
main wash 10 min.
rinse 1 min.
rinse 1 min.
rinse 1 min.
dry not timed yet.

it has a cute little

lite that illuminates when the cycle is running.

will have to get some model airplane paint and tint some appliance touch up epoxy paint to get rid of that rusty area under lite.

and i'm going to get some nail polish remover (as suggested above) to try and get that magic marker writing off the door! it ruins it!

but hey. just yesterday i thought it wouldn't run without leaking! so i can't complain!!! don't think i've been this excited over a dishwasher in a long time!

here it is

draining into my home made drain tub made from a home depot "homer" bucket with a pvc drain attached to the bottom and garden hose attached to that. this way i can run any portable no matter where i am.

i got the adapter to connect a faucet quick connect to a garden hose at home depot also (i work there).

the faucet connector for this dishwasher does not leak a drop!

a better shot of how i hook them up

using a garden hose connected to a hot water line and a quick connect. again the drain bucket is drained out by another garden hose which runs to a floor drain.

thanks for the tip

on the alcohol "frontal". just tried some, it did lighten the marks a bit. will keep at it here.

here are a couple pics of it after it's first complete cycle with hot water and a tad of bleach in the first wash to clean it. looks like new!!!

racks and tub

are like new! not a scratch on them!

the tub and door are metal with some type plastic coating on it. but like the old g.e. tubs or the old frigidaire dishmobiles. this is different from anything i have ever seen.

water inlet to tub is that black hole in back center. air vent is at upper left on back wall.

so i consider this one

a smashing success!!!!!!! in spite of my problems yesterday. maybe the seal just needed to be moistened up and run to seal properly again. no telling how long it has set dry.

def worth the 3 hour drive and 75 bucks for!

FINAL QUESTION AND I'LL SHUT UP ABOUT THIS LITTLE DISHWASHER THAT COULD. IF I USE IT ON A SEMI REG. BASIS DO YOU THINK THAT DISHWASHER DETERGENTS WILL CORRODE THE SEAL OVER TIME?

now that it doesn't leak i don't want to hurt the seal by exposing it to harsh chemicals. but i do think it will be good for it to run periodically to keep that seal moist!

thanks again to all for your tips, advice, and comments!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(oh yea, the dry is about 24 min. long on the cycle).

From the first interior shot, I was struck by how much it resembled a Frigidaire, like they shrunk one. The fact that it is more square than other 18" wide dishwshers means that there is a more even spray pattern for the racks. I would imagine that like most things monkey wards, especially a mini dishwasher made in Japan, it is not really durable, sort of like the reviews I have read about the little counter top DWs from China.
