I know I've neveer seen doors with that style/arrangement of black-glass doors on a GE Range before. Very strange. But beautiful range!!!

Norgeway, it has been there since I took the picture on June 17th and nobody has bought it...I think the price of $150 is keeping buyers away plus old gas stoves scare people...too bad because I think its a great stove!

I have long been under the impression that Coppertone replaced Woodtone Brown in GE's lineup for 1963, but that is not something I can prove. If anyone knows better, or knows of a source that proves the year of introduction, I hope they'll share it.
I can tell you that Coppertone was highly, highly coveted in the '63-'64 time frame; it was the Latest and Greatest. Women just loved it, for some reason. I don't really understand that; I've owned a couple of Coppertone appliances over the years, and they're sort of like today's black or stainless appliances - hard to keep free of visible finger marks.

Those just look like glass, really they are just accent pieces, the first generation of P-7 ovens didnt have glass windows.

I dont get it either, but coppertone and avocado outsold the pretty colors like turquoise,pink, sherwood green ETC..My Aunt remodeled her house the summer of 65, before I was born in September, she replaced her Norge stove and Philco fridge they got in 47 when they were married, and the Hotpoint dishwasher sink that was in the house when they bought it new in 56, they put in all coppertone Frigidaire stuff, a Compact 30 range, left hand door frost free custom deluxe fridge and a Custom Imperial dishwasher, she loved it, and it was in the house when they built a new house in 77.where they are today at 86 years old.She put in a GE wall oven, cooktop and Dishwasher in the new house,but they were white, only the oven remains.

My Grandma Wilde had the matching fridge to the GE range pictured above. It was bought new in 1964 when they remodeled their kitchen, and she got rid of all the cool looking windowed cupboard doors and so on. She also get a new Monarch gas range that matched the fridge.

I like the chest freezer.
Coppertone was a beautiful, rich feeling color. "Pretty" colors. That's just it. People were tired of all the femme colors. Now more rich, earthy colors with texture and feel. Only "pretty" I could tolerate as turqoise. All the rest just too femme. I feel sorry for all the husbands saddled with all that pink from the Mamie Eisenhour "collection". Our spring 1961 built house had coppertone O'Keefe & Merrit appliances (well the Tappan dishwasher lol). Plus the sink. Friends built house in 1964 with GE coppertone. To this day, I still say there wasn't much diffference in the two shades. And yes I relize those dark glass "windows" are just accents. Can see that with the doors open. But that "fe3ature" was way ahead of its time. Still reminiscent of the future of black glass door accents.

All the other colors - from Sherwood Green to Cadet Blue to Doeskin and Poppy and Avocado and all the rest of them - don't appeal to me. My own choice is White, which always matches, always goes with other colors, and will always be with us.

40" GE Coppertone Range
I contacted CJ and bought the GE range and will likely drive up to get it Sunday. This is the first GE 40" range to have a SC master oven. This same range was on Pittsburgh Craig s List earlier this year and I was interested then but I could not get a picture of the inside of the oven so I was Leary about the SC ovens condition [ We saw a lot of early SC ovens that had been cleaned to death ] so thanks to Jerry taking pictures of the inside I decided to add it to the Museum. This stove will replace a very similar GE 40" white range that is two years newer. If anyone wants this slightly newer range let me know, I also have a beautiful white GE TOL Americana that needs a home also about 1965-6 vintage.

Everyone has a point about color, which isn't classified by sex - my wife loves the earthy colors more than the pastels.
I'm like Danemodsandy - kinda like the yellows and turqoise, and prefer pink only (the very light beige-like pinks) on a vintage washer and dryer. Mamie Eisenhower pinks - no thanks. Anyway -whatever floats yer boat.
I like special colors that we don't get - the last array of colors for cars that I loved were the mid-80's choices you could get for, say, a 1985 Cadillac Biarritz (and I've never owned one). The brochure had so many interesting colors, you could easily transfer those to appliances.
...and the GE '40 is really nice - what a stove, it still has timeless lines, imho.

I will say this for it - when you looked in the mirror of a Shell Pink bathroom, you looked like one of Honey Boo Boo's grandkids. The color made the light very flattering indeed.
