Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support AutomaticWasher.org:

Dude.. That was one of the best threads ever... Once i get back to my laptop i will repost a new pic of me and Johnny up... Please don't spoil it for the rest of us..

I agree

That face pic thread was awesome!

Did I miss the part where one person was appointed forum police?

Well, I *am* in fact the other moderator of a recently-established vacuum site, but not here. I was half-joking...sorry if it came across as snippy.

"...a recently-established vacuum site..."

then perhaps you could hang over there?

"...I was half-joking..."

and so am i....

*grins devilishly, to studio audience*

I am proud to say.....

I am the creator of that face pic thread...the longest living thread yet in AW.Org history! Robert deleted that thread, as well as other non related threads for a reason. Lets all respect Robert and his wishes by sticking with Appliance/Detergent related topics.

Actually my understanding was that that system erred and deleted that stuff on its own.

If there are any bandwidth concerns, they need not be taken to the degree that they were during the last witch-hunt.

Perhaps it can also be said- if we keep doing divisive posts (such as religious and politcal stuff) or tearing public figures to shreds- that the universe don't like ugly and nasty and that more threads may disappear. Negativity begets negativity.

"...Robert deleted that thread, as well as other non related threads for a reason..."

oh? really?

going to the chatroom...time for answers

I enjoyed the pic thread BUT...

I'm still a antique and we are still on dial up. After so many posts I couldn't get the pics to download so I just stopped looking :-(

Perhaps starting continuation thread after so many posts??? I can't be the only one with dial up.

Rich

There's an easy work around for dealing with picture-heavy threads on dial-up. Set your browser to NOT load pictures. The thread will load much faster. Then right-click on the place-holders for individual pictures, new material since the last viewing, etc., and select "view image" or whatever is the appropriate context-menu choice.

Rich you make a good point too..

even with broadband it was taking a while for the old thread to load...

"Well, I *am* in fact the other moderator of a recently-established vacuum site"

I am SO not worthy!!!

Pic Size . . .

The old face pic thread was a lot of fun but pics don't have to be full screen size to be enjoyable. Some other sites restrict the size of any pics . . . I don't know how much this helps conserve bandwidth, but perhaps someone more knowledgeable than me can comment on that.

I agree with quite a few of you; Shane, Toggle, Scott55405, Rich...we need to respect Robert's wishes. It is not easy being a webmaster. While we sit and post, they have to be concerned with content, "hiccups", bandwidth, etc. When there is the need to sound the alarm, I'm sure Robert will do so. If we are to enjoy this site, then it is up to us to work as a team to ensure that we help things run smoothly. In a sense, Jeff, we are all "forum police". I don't think anyone should be chastised for their concern.

For those that want to propagate divisiveness by posting controversial and/or emotional topics, holding grudges, or fanning the flames of drama; maybe there is another site to "hang over" that is better suited to those interests.

Face pic threads are fun. but they don't have to be posted all of the time. Maybe we can try a summer and winter face pic thread. Twice a year shouldn't strap us too much.

In a sense, Jeff, we are all "forum police".

I could not agree with you more Venus! Let me further say that I love this place, and have made many wonderful friends here. I think its wonderful such a diverse group can gather here and share our common interests. Thats the way it should be!

"I don't think anyone should be chastised for their concern."

Again, we are in agreement

"...Robert deleted that thread, as well as other non related threads for a reason..."

I did not delete that thread, it was a system error. The picture threads were kind of fun actually.

Wow changes n stuff

Rich, AKA: perc o prince:

You have my condolenses, you are NOT the only one on dial up (at home)

I must have missed some good stuff....oh well

Been way too busy to even come on here :-(

I've missed this place and *ahem* most of the folks posting here. ;-)

Going to miss Tucson too....Dayum!

Maybe this is no excuse

I am a real novice as far as alot of computer stuff is comcered. I had a bf at one point that was a computer wiz, trust me, he even had the New England accient to go with it. If I did not know how to do something, then I asked, or rather he would say, I'll do it, and left it at that. As far as saving bandwith, I am all for it. Pic sizes, I just do not have the knowlege on how to do that.I am sure that I will have to figure it out. A pic thread would be nice once or twice a year.I really know very few people, and really can be quite shy, so this is a perfect medium for me. Thoughts?

While the face pic thread was fun, it was also getting slow to load even on DSL. And I think it served its purpose quite well.

What I'm missing more are the threads on old phono radios, toasters, detergents, etc. This group has a lot of collective knowledge and wit. Thanks so much to Robert for providing a site where we can share.

how about...

putting a spot for a self picture in the users profile? might make things a little easier to work with for dialup folks. maybe limit the filesize to 100k or so...?

Why can't our picture come up by our screen name on each thread/post that's tied to our user profile? I think that would be cool to see everyone and put a face to all the people we've been talking to. Just a thought-- James

Saving Bandwidth

If you cut the photo down to 256 colors before uploading it will greatly reduce the size of the photo. Most graphics programs can handle this. Smaller sized photos mean faster loading of the thread.

Pics in the profie

Would be a good idea if it could be handled without too much bandwith.

Maybe...

I love the idea of a picture-on-thread feature, maybe a cut down version of the picture-in-profile. Not sure how close Robert runs to his bandwith and processor load limits with the provider, but the features seem to me like they would be somewhat intense.

Wish I knew the first thing about HTML instead of all this FileMaker Pro. I hate to be one of those people with some supposedly great idea that someone else has to do the heavy lifting to impliment.

props

I think it would be nice if we could all use vintage appliances in our photos as props. We could then associate you with the machine and perhaps even the thread and make the whole thing more appropriate for an appliance forum.

Hopefully the next photo I publish of myself will be standing next to the 1927 Brunswick panatrope, possibly as early as next Monday night, or Tuesday.

A small thumbnail photo of everyone at least residing in your profile would be an excellent idea also.

Love to you all.
Holla from Hollywood.

Bob
