Hello to all aw members,

do you think that ever since maytag was bough by whirlpool that the maytag name has lost its prestige if you look at this portable dishwasher it looks more whirlpool than maytag has if the maytag brand name was stamp on the dishwasher when it looks more like a whirlpool here is a picture to show what i am saying. This is the portable version idk if the built in models looks the same.

The current MT DWs are rebadged WP machines with different styling and options. As are Kenmore Elite and KitchenAid.

Sadly today all machines with the Maytag name are Whirlpool engineered. The factories that built Maytag style parts have since closed and everything in a Maytag can be found in a Whirlpool. The prestige is Gone. Maytag isnt even Whirlpool's top of the line brand.

That machine is not worth the money, it has PVC coated racks (I think)instead of the gray Nylon ones and there is no soil sensor either. The good thing about Whirlpool's Maytag line is the it uses the older point Voyager wash mechanism that has the built in Chopper instead of the newer low power wash system with filter strainer.

So are you saying all WP Maytag machines use the old wash system as opposed to the newer low water wash system?

I find it ODD that A maytag with a stainless steel interior is cheaper than some WP models without a stainless interior. I've seen this several times. I can't remember which model.

The Heavy Wash cycle on some of the current Maytags uses 12 gallons of water. Doesn't sound like low-water washing to me. OTOH, the max cycle time with all options can go up to 255 minutes.

All Maytag machines today use the older chopper design. If you look at the manuals they do use more water than the newer low power system. The low power system is found on all Whirlpool, Amana, most Kitchen-aid,Kenmore and so forth brands. When the point voyager came out a decade ago I remeber comparing it to the power clean filter module and being stuned at how limited it was in pressure, water volume and food particle round up. Today the point voyager has stellar performance over the newer low water system. Keep in mind on this newer system on has to pull out a plastic filter to wash after a cycle. The filter is small and course, so you really have to wash the dishes before putting them inside the machine. The Power clean and point voyager at least have that self clean fine filter and chopper.

The time is another story on the low water system to. The main wash alone is an hour excluding thermal holds for the normal wash.

I have the Kenmore Elite version of the resource saver wash system. The filter does not have to be cleaned that often. For the amount of water it uses, it does a phenomenal job of cleaning. Cycle times are long, but it is very quiet. The alternating wash arm system enables you to fully use the top rack for items you would normally put in the lower rack. It also has a top rack only wash cycle which comes in handy when you want to run a half load. Mine is about 4 years old; have not had a problem yet. I don't prerinse, and dishes sometimes stay for 4 or 5 days before I run it. All in all, VERY happy with it. My only complaint is the targeted rotaring jets in the lower back of the tub are too low, they should be higher up in the tub for taller pots and casserole dishes.

I guess I was under the impression that all TALL Tub dishwashers had the lower less powerful wash system than the standard tub dishwashers. I didn't realize some of the tall tub's had better wash systems.

I have this Maytag portable...........................

I got mine in December of 2011. This one has a high heat rinse, mine does not. All in all it does a decent job, I HATE washing dishes by hand, so I am not gonna complain. Cycle times, I only use Heavy Duty with Wash Heat Boost, and Air Dry, are extremely long. There is no insulation around the machine, so it is loud, but again I HATE washing dishes by hand. I had a late model nineties Maytag Jet-Clean that was awesome!! That machine could take paint off the side of a building!!! Best dishwasher I ever owned!!

i bought this dw last August got a good deal since i sell appliances, its not anything like the Maytag Jetclean dw that i had before. Maytag will never be the same, thats what i tell our Whirlpool rep all the time.

Maytag Jumped The Shark

The beginning of the end for Maytag came when they bought or merged with Norge. Suddenly, their washers and dryers took on the fugly (in my opinion) Norge design ques such as out of round openings for both their washers and dryers. The classic Newton Maytags had a clean symmetrical design where the doors opened to perfectly round tubs. They were simplistic yet classy clean design. I for one always thought Norge Washers and Dryers were basically funny ugly ducklings of the laundry world. I also always thought of Norge as mediocre at best quality.

Higher End Maytag dishwashers

The portable Maytag dishwashers are basically the lowest-end models on their lineup. They're closely compared to WP's portable, except without the "resource-efficient" wash-system. I have the higher end MDB4709PAB model, and it's literally identical to the older Whirlpools before they changed. The only difference is that the chopper is a 4-blade vs. 2, and the lower wash arm has a different shape, but the spray-jets are in the exact same location as the stainless steel arm of the Point Voyager and PowerClean models. I love mine to death. I've put dishes in just as filthy as I did with my aunt's old 2001 PowerClean (which still runs like new), and so far I haven't found a speck leftover. This machine was a relief to find/purchase because I wanted a Whirlpool but everything has changed to the alternating arm system/manual filter, which I find ridiculous. If you're looking for any hope of finding a dishwasher nowadays with the qualities of the PowerClean, this will be the closest you'll get.

Easter egg..

You'll also notice at the back on the bracket holding the top-rack wash arm supply tube, the original Maytag logo is molded into the plastic. I thought it was a cool Easter egg that no one else would probably notice. Although Maytag's parent company is now Whirlpool, it seems that the people that work under the Maytag side of the brand are at least attempting to hold on to aspects of the older machines that we miss so much today.

I have some friends that bought them both when they asked my the most powerful dishwasher that was out there.I told them

Viking dishwasher's have 1/2 H.p. but have horrid reviews.Maytag dishwashers are selling like crazy though and they get

good reviews and they use water the most important thing to clean dishes.They love them and the one that I have used at

my families rental in North-Carolina worked really good.It passed my cat food test and had no problems 1 quart of hard cat food

dumped in the dishwasher and it was gone by the end of the wash period.I can't wait to move cause I hate this L.G. here.

I love my MAYTAG portable dishwasher...........

Maytag is the only portable in the WP line up with a three level wash system. Kenmore and WP only have two wash arms, Maytag has a third on the top of the DW. I hate washing dishes....I do not pre rinse, and I use the normal cycle with boosted heat and one QUANTUM TAB....I always get sparkling results. I bought my Maytag in 2011, this model is only slighty different.
