Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Unresolved Prior Scarcity Issues

It sounds to me like she is not used to using nice things, feels a little guilty, so she must get things on sale to compensate, just in case it all goes away. Preserve the dishwasher in excellent non used shape to get top dollar for the home? She has fear of it all going away. I have relatives like this, we did not come from much, but there is a tendancy to go back to our depression era grandparents thinking in the face of money, comfort and convenience that education and position has afforded us.

My sister in law put in a kitchen that easily cost $50,000 in her Portland home. The old one was fine. She does not cook. She gets frozen Stoffers meal size things or caters. Shops at Costco. Would never pay for fresh basil or fresh asparagas in the winter, wont buy at a gourmet market for organic things, but has countertops in the kitchen that cost more than they will ever spend on food in 10 years. She also thinks what she did is good for resale.

People should spend money on what makes them happy to use. I am sure people think we are nuts to spend 100 bucks on a 35 year old dryer, then sink parts into it. We don't do it for resale, we do it for art.

Keeping your house for resale is like cutting down trees so you should have enough wood to build your coffin instead of enjoying your fireplace.

"I don't want to use up all the color in the new TV

Precious!

My great-grandmother was visiting shortly after we got cable in Buffalo in the '70's. Some rerun like Leave It To Beaver was on, and she said something like, "I thought you had a color TV!"

Oh, Ralf,

I could tell you stories about folks in Bavaria which would convince you Munich is in the middle of Ostfriesland...
My favorite is the neighbor who always opens her oven after baking (so you can hit the door with your knee) because, otherwise, 'the heat doesn't get out and warm the kitchen'.
Back in 1989 we got a computer controlled heating system for our very large flat in Munich. Technicians spent an entire day measuring and entering data in the unit to make sure it kept the place perfectly warm at a minimal use of energy.
Cost us 1200DM extra...
Barely were they gone, my öko-freak of a friend went through the whole flat and turned the thermostats 'down' to 'save' energy.
Computer flips, after three service calls (at our expense) Valiant throws in the towel and turns the computer off.
But we were 'saving' energy...
Or how about the Greens who fought computers tooth and nail well into the nineties? The Translator's Union in Munich wouldn't let me join in 1989 because I used a PC to prepare the texts of my technical translations...
Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without my grandmother used to say...good advice, really.

I had a terantula spider as a pet years ago and my sister would tell her friends about it since she thought it was strange to have one as a pet. When asked about the danger of being bitten and posibly poisoned, she actualy tod them I had a vet take its glands out !!!!! I laughed so hard I almost peed myself when a cousin of ours aproched me about this.I told him that these so called poisoness spiders only have enough venum to kill their pray and I had no idea where she got that false information. You'd need a strong set of mgnifying glasses to even find these so called "glands".The one time I was bitten,I got fluish for a day and the physical aching pain was horrible but it didn't kill me.LOL

My elderly volunteer

Im the charity store I manage, my main volunteer worker, a beautiful and very big hearted lady called Eva is always buying extra food and clothes and such like for herself and when I asked her why she stocks up so much she told me it was because as a child she grew up in the great depression of 1929 and everything was scarce so you had to stockpile, and the dear lady honestly believes a similar depression is just around the corner for the world again in the next couple of years, mind you given the alarming levels of personal debt here in Australia, she may just be right.

No offense or judgment is intended within the following post.
The opinions aired are not necessarily those of this station or its management.

As grandpa used to say, the craziness does not go to the moutains; it goes to the people. He also used to say: The female mind in not explainable; it has been studied for centuries to no aval. It is one of the great remaining unsolved mysteries* of the world!

The symbol of female in the Tarot is the moon and the waters. The waters, although they can bring forth life, are ever-changing and not stable. Don't the waters also swallow men up who try to navigate them? *LOL*

She sounds like the type where you have to say the least amount possible lest your words be twisted, re-arranged and sorted to fit the existing spaces and patterns in the brain. and somehow everthing becomes fear-based.

Let us remember that genius and insanity usually flow together. Perhaps for what she is lacking in sense she has been granted another charisma (gift of G-d/talent). I knew a family that was near genius, but they could not read analog clocks.

*"Mystery" BTW, in Greek is used to mean => mystery/mystical element and/or sacrament.

Do what I did to my germ-freak mother: "Use the f^&*ing DW, lady for pots and pans or your hands will become shriveled from arthritis caused by being under constant running water as your mother's did. Touch up with a soap-pad afterwards if neeed. Seems to have worked. "Just put in a new one before you sell."

OMG

Hi Keven!
Just found the time to answer...
Well, as Bavaria isn't Germany but Bavaria, actually....lol!
And Ostfriesland is something absolutely special...(I'm glad to live in NRW - Northrhine-Westphalia! lol)
I can't believe sometimes the stupidity of people....
But I'm catching up, as I'm just reading the book "The God Delusion"/Richard Dawkins, and I would never ever in my life would have believed when people would have told me how stupid mankind can be.... So, it doesn't make me wonder what I'm reading here...
Maybe I'm too clever for that world....or these times...??

LOL - Ralf
