Well. 'Member those two Toast-R-Ovens that recently sold on ebay? Both MIB, I think. One went for 200 and something and the other for 407.

Since daddy needs a new pair of shoes, I finally got off my butt and put my T-R-O up for auction on Sunday.

It's not the oldest model.

It's not MIB.

It doesn't have the tray.

It has 3 days to go.

It's up to 123 bucks.

So what's up with these? I know I didn't pay more than say, 30 bucks for it (youall know how cheap I am. My current one cost 5 bucks at the Sally.) Why the hoohah? I didn't even say in the listing that Don Johnson might have made his Pop Tarts in it.

Any ideas? My only theory--and a half-baked one at that--is that since it's the Christmas season and Rudolph is being watched all over the country, people are remembering the original GE commercials, one of which features a T-R-O.

Oh, well. Can't complain. My only problem now is deciding whether I'm going to get the stilettos or the sling-back flatties...

I have no idea...

I would have thought this was a scam and had phony buyers driving the prices up, but there your auction is. Good luck and happy shoe buying.

I think we should all keep our eyes open at the bargain table, buy these things for $5 and collectively make thousands. Then we can share a laugh at these people.

AMAZING.

Won't ship to Canada eh? Well I don't want your smelly old Toast R Oven, I got two of my own, so there LOL

I found a Proctor Silex toaster oven last week, the one that works like a regular pop up toaster but has the glass door in one side with the slide out tray. Then I see Hamilton Beach is selling them again under their name, modernized.

$123 already, thank the lord for nutty folk.. HA

Good luck with your auction Veg. I hope you get close to the $400 mark too! Make sure to ask the bidder that wins why these are suddenly so popular and why they had to have it. Would love to know. Patrick

Proctor-Silex toaster oven

I used to have a Proctor-Silex toaster oven that had a different configuration from the usual. There was a slot in the top of the oven with a little door. One would open the door, and put the bread in vertically like a regular toaster, and lower it with the usual lever on the side. The bread would then pop up like a regular toaster. When used as a toaster oven, the door in the top would be closed and food put in the front like anyy other toaster oven.

And the response was....

That the buyer got it as a gift for a friend who's hard to buy for.

Well.

Either I need to stop being so damn easy to buy for, or I need to get me some new friends!

Well veg...

I say it's a little bit of column "A" and a little bit of column "B" lol

Congrats on your high sell veg!

Pete--you and I are gonna be rich men! Let's hire chauffeurs.

And pool boys!

I heard again from the buyer and it turns out the TRO is for her mother-in-law who did a lot of overnight babysitting this past year.

But still--180 bucks for a toaster oven? Geez. At the same time I sold a Singer Featherweight that went for (only) 185 bucks. I thought that was going to be the big item. Guess I can't complain, though, since I only paid 25 bucks for it at Sally's!
