More vacuum coffee

My percolator is nothing fancy, just a Priscilla Ware aluminum pot. When the brew has cooled down enough, I put it in a glass jar and store it in the fridge. I'm sorry I can't post pics as I don't have a scanner yet, must get one soon though, then watch out.

The only coffee pods available that I've seen are FOLGERS. The best single-serving coffee pot is the Starbucks/Bodum travel press. Just heat water in a kettle, pour it in the travel press with the coffee, wait 3 minutes, add sugar and milk or cream, stir, press. Absolutely heavenly coffee for one.

I use a Bodum Glass stove top vacuum coffee maker. Have yet to find anything that makes better coffee. I think it's becase nearly all the water mixes with all the grounds at almost the same time. Basically, sheepherder's coffee. Then when the cooling bottom carafe pulls the coffee back past the filter, it get aeriated. If you like strong coffee, a vacuum maker can do it without a resulting bitter taste.

The easiest way I have found to remove the Pyrex basket & stem assembly is to lift the spreader plate from the top of the basket (this allows you to get a firm hold on the stem) and then using a clean, damp dishcloth, grasp the top of the stem and lift out slowly. Once clear of the top of the bowl, rest it on the underside of the lid which you are holding in your other hand until you put it down. This way you can avoid rushing to prevent drips from landing where you do not want them. We used the paper filters in ours to keep the coffee clear.

Tom,

I'm going to get some paper filters today just to make it a little easier to clean and keep the grounds out. Is it possible to make strong coffee in that thing? Mine's good but not as strong as I think it would be.
