Jon,
Way too cool!
Great find!
Are you into Pre-Recorded Reel to Reel tapes and players yet?
You have not lived the stereo age until you do.....
I would love to hear this receiver that you found? What is the wattage output?
Brent

I can remember HH Scott came out with a SS reciver in 1963,used Germanium transistors. Many of those early SS recievers and amplifiers were very expensive and had performance well below the vacuum tubed models at that time.

That Sherwood is in great shape. Usually if you are lucky enoug to come across this style receiver the front is usually all pitted or scratched or both. The one you have looks exceptional! How long have you owned it?

Bendix transistors? That's nothing, I've got a Bendix TV set :)

And, it's a darn nice design - needs a new CRT and a little more TLC and cabinet TLC (sat under a tarp for a year outside - It STILL wacked me with the high voltage when I variac'd it the first time!)

Oh, but it could get stations no other Tv could. In my last apartment, I used it quite regularly. When the maintenance staff camwe to fix the perpetually busted air conditioning, they were always amazed to see a TV that old, in operation. Never believed it was real till I poked their head behind the set and they saw all those tubes...

Ironially - it was the ONE solid state diode in it, that was bad. All the tubes checked fine.

Thank you Jason

Actually that is a Sansui 120W/C Monster. I can't get the volume up past 10 o'clock or I'll blow away!

A BENDIX TEEVEE!! Lets see photos! I had no idea they got as far as TEEVEES! Radio jes but TEEVEE wow!

Brent,my dad had a Voice of Music Reel to Reel and I played and played with that when I was a kid. So far the R to R phase has not struck me yet, I am having too much fun restoring these receivers!
And buying the vitage test equipment to do that AND learing how to use the vintage test equip too!

Allen I actually have another one which is not working but in fine shape as well.

You should have seen that Sansui when I got it! It came from Texas and the prior owner loved Refried beans as they were plastered all around the knobs and glass. And it must have sat under a window in West Texas for years as the inside was just filled with fine fine W.Texas dust!
But it dolled up nice and sounds great, in fact the Mc and the Sherwood sound just as nice.
Which blows me away considering that the Sherwoods components are all original. I know I am about to loose some electrolytics soon but for now crank away!

So Bendix REALLY rocks!

The first time I've ever seen the name Bendix was on a radio back in the 80s. I had NO IDEA about Bendix appliances back then.
