Moving the agitator by hand

On BD and DD machines, you can move the agitator by hand. When I was a child, I used to play with the washer and move the agitator by hand back and fourth, and when we got a DD machines, I used to agitate the base fast enough to get the auger to move. I dont think this would have much harm on the machine, but am I wrong?

I can't think of anything your hand could do to the agi that would damage it.  In a BD, the agi is not connected to anything in neutral, and when engaged you can't move it.

In either a WP BD or DD machine this is possible, and it would not cause any harm what so ever, this is probably just one more reason that more washer collectors started out when they were around WP-KM machines, this and the fact that you could actually watch them wash.

BTW I love pre-sloshing my Speed Queens with soap flakes as the motor grinds away making water on the fill !!!

I did that to my Moms Whirlpool and Grandmas Lady Kenmore all the time.

Oh, but wait

With far more strength, you could do that with a Pitman Maytag too.
But it would only go as far as the linear gear would go till TDC or TBC.
But...again, with enough force, you could fling the agitator quick enough to get past TDC, and move the agitator the other way in the Maytag.

I too loved to play with any machine where the agitator would move freely in neutral....

Yes, I turned the agitator in our Kenmore too. Maybe it was a sign. Parents should not let their sons turn agitators, just as you wouldn't want your son to touch a Barbie.

It reminded me some kind of "agitator OCD" with the Brastemp washer my mom had.

It had the super surgilator agitator and the agitator cap had the Brastemp logo (Skimo)>

I'd always move the agitator so the skimo was always properly alligned.

I've never really paid attention to that, but it was somethign I've been doing my whole life.

The same with front loaders, one of the baffles always at 12 o'clock position and with my Magic chef i always start the cycle with the lint filter at 12 o'clock position.
