My 1992 Hoover Ecologic Washer/Dryer 1000

Well I finally got round to taking pictures of it and here they are. This machine was manufactured in December 1992 in Britain and has been owned by us since new. It has never needed a single repair and still works like they day it was bought. I believe it cost around £300 and I think it is a non-standard machine as it has a 1000rpm spin, which was rare on Hoovers. As you can see cosmetically it shows a fair bit of wear and tear. The writing is wearing off the control panel, which is yellowed, and there are a few scratches on the metal. I would never dream of giving this machine up and it is still in daily use. Sorry about the terrible quality of the pictures. I had to take them on a camera phone.

Option Buttons, including dispenser drawer release button. I've never understood the point in this. The drawer is perfectly easy to open by hand.

And finally...

The rinse water level. Much higher than on most modern machines. This machine fills up to this level at the end of the wash and for all 4 of the rinses. It distributes between wash and the 1st and 2nd rinses, then there is a short (400rpm?) spin followed by 2 further rinses with a distribution in between and the final spin. The gentle tumble action is used throughout the rinses on cottons and delicates but not synthetics.

The ECOLOGIC range used less electricity and water than ever before in the hoover range and incorporated the sensor spray lift and shower system which the previous ones did not have.

Great pics electron 800! Can't beat them rinse water levels, my logic is now in a bad way and i dont think im going to fix it sadly. i don't have the time or the money. it was my first machine i ever collected

econ wash

Econony wash simply reduces the temperature of the Whites programme (B) from 85degrees to 60. It dosent work on any other programme. It seems pretty pointless to me as there is already a Whites economy programme (C) which is just programme B with a 60degrees temperature. Programme D is also basically the same but slightly shorter.

Darren, whats the sensor spray lift and shower system? Theres no mention of it in the instructions and as far as I can tell this machine dosent have them, then again it is a non-standard machine and you may notice it has the old electron style control panel. I think this may also mean it is the same inside as an electron. I also beleive it uses the same amount of water as older Hoovers.

As far as I can tell the only way this machine can be considered "eco" is that 95degrees programmes are reduced to 85degrees and it encorporates the "econ wash" button and "whites economy" programme.

Such a shame to hear about the logic. hope you can get it going again or find something nice to replace it =]

Hey,
The "sensorspray" system, this is just there fancy way of saying lift and shower system, like every machine incorperates these days, does your machines have turqouise paddles like my newwave? That was when those paddles first came about, with the ecologic range.

The significant water drop from my logic to the ecologic 1300 was a fair bit. my logic uses 120litres & the ecologic's used 99litres for cotton 60.

I don't have the brochure to hand but it was about 1.3 or 4% less electricity too.

Yes tis sad about my logic, it needs a new speed control and motor, and now a new door seal as the door accidently got shut while it was stood in my parents garage and now the door seals ruined with mould.

Ah yes it does have the turquiose paddles

but the drum in mine has less holes I think. Not that it makes much difference.

As for water usage I know the Ecologics were meant to use less but this one seems to have the same programming and water levels as the old electrons, which used 134 litres for a 4.5kg load I believe

Great looking Ecologic, but mystifed as to what model number it is - with it being a 1000rpm spin.

is A8596.

I've also always been curious about it. I can only just remember ecologics being on sale and I was 3 when this machine was bought. I can't remember which shop it came from either.

If anyone has any info on, or brochures of the logic and ecologic range I'd love to see them. Most old hoover brochures I have come accross have been for the electrons.
