My Bluing Turned Gray

I went to use a bit of LaFrance in my whites the other night, and when I poured it into the measuring cup, it was a clumpy, gray powder! This was probably one of the last boxes ever made of the stuff.

Anyone else have this happen to their LaFrance?

And I had a box of it, which had to be at least five years old, until fairly recently.

All mine seems to be just fine. I have boxes that are several decades old and quite new - all are the same but some of the scent is probably diminished in the older boxes.

Where are you storing it?

In the original box, on an upper shelf in the laundry room...

I guess graying is inevitable with maturity.

Is the laundry room extremely hot? (Not air-conditioned?)

Nope, off the kitchen and the same temp as the rest of the house. The Miele dryer puts out no heat at all.

Just curious, have you tried adding it to some water to see what it does? Does it turn the water grey?

I may be going out on a limb here (once again), but could it be that the color has changed and *not* the compound within it?
