My dream set!

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

OK Thanks Louis!
I tried different embed codes and they didn't work. I didn't think about just using the links! I had to upload the last one again on YouTube as it was still being processed a few hours later. If it works this time, it should take a few minutes before it can be viewed.

So I'll try with the others! You'll notice that I still have to fix the tub brake on it!

Malcolm,

If you're speaking about the 1965 US Frigidaire model lineup

The models in blue are the ones without the remote timer or separate timer/dial.

The ones in red are the ones with the incandescent light bulb illuminating the separate timer dial.

The ones in green have fluorescent lighting.

And the ones in the last row (Custom Imperial models) are the ones with the translucent plastic (rather than aluminum) consoles and dispensers.

There was an error in my previous post! So here's the edit! (I forgot to put the DCDG dryer in red!)

thoroughly enjoyed your post,

your pics, videos, and the comments!!! my all time favorite washer! the frigidaire custom imperial 1965 model! those control panels are so unique!!!

hope your's runs forever! just don't drop it off a truck like i did to the one i got 4 years ago! that hurt! it still hurts to think about it!

Hi Pete, I did think about what happened to your washer when I got the dryer and Paul also took a lot of care to avoid any damage to the washer's control panel when he brought it to me. I don't think I'll move this set again soon so I hope they'll be safe for a while!

lid

The reason I ask is I have a mint solid lid on my rollermatic but would love a window lid and was wondering if you would be interested in a trade.

Hi Mark,

Well, I'd like to keep the window lid there but I wish I could just buy a spare... There's some rust eating it at two places that would need to be fixed. If I get another lid, I'll weld the missing parts that but that will probably damage the porcelain coating around the repair and will also need to be repainted after (and that's not as good as porcelain). In the condition it is, I don't think the lid is worth being shipped...

The whole top of the washer would need to be replaced as the porcelain of the top under the lid is worn (I'm wondering what happened to it) If the original lid was worn like that, that probably explains why it was replaced with a window lid.

I have another white top from a Canadian Rollermatic washer somewhere but it lacks the chrome strips and it also lacks the lid... I think it already has the timer hole but I'm not sure (it's either the washer or the dryer top that has it). It will also need to be drilled out to install the chrome strips as no Canadian Rollermatic machines had them...

If anybody is parting out a 1965-67 Custom Imperial washer or dryer, I'd also be interested in getting the chrome trim strips that goes on each side of the cabinet for my washer. They're missing on mine as the washer has a cabinet from a 1966 WCIAK.

I did a few minor things to the washer in the last few days. I did replace the "SMALL LOAD" solenoid that didn't work and I repainted the dispenser door on the washer so it would match the one on the dryer, and then I did repaint the one on the dryer too.

The things I still need to do on the washer is to replace the agitate arm on the washer, find chrome cabinet strips and maybe replace the top with a better one I have (but that one lacks the chrome trim so I'll have to drill holes in it and try not to damage the porcelain finish...).

The dryer will need a nozzle for the sprinkler as it's currently missing...

Here's the solenoid that I replaced. I got one with the same part number but it's slightly different. That's not a surprise as even the 1965 Tech Talk manual specifies two brands of solenoids.

It gets a better turnover on small loads now! In the link below, you can see how the turnover is slowed down when the overflow rinse gets the water level higher!

(I haven't figured how to embed a video from Flickr).

65 Frigidaire Custom Imperial Set

Looking Good Phil, I am so glad that that dryer found a good home with you, it is always nice when you give something up that you like to see it appreciated and restored by its new owner. I will keep a lookout for the trim parts and sprinkler you need I feel that there is a good chance I have both somewhere, keep reminding me, LOL. John

Wow, Phil, the set looks great!! I swear that the turquoise version was what a friend of mine's family had in their house in Beacon Hill. That was the same neighbourhood where your built-in oven and cooktop came from - all those houses were Frigidaire-equipped when they were built... Those were the days!!

I may make Hubby come visit so that he can see the washer up close now that it's service again... I can't believe how willing he was to haul the washer for the second half of the trip. Oh wait, he was guaranteed that I couldn't get another washer, well at least until I got back ... LOL

What impresses me, and again it's just looking at them, not appreciating how they function or how well...is that they remind of the control panels seen at Cape Canaveral; amazing looking when not lit and still as much, when lit. Ok, I talk too much.
