My eldest cat, Lieselotte had to go to sleep today. I adopted her in October 1993. No pet I have ever had loved me as much as Liesl. From the very first minute I adopted her from the shelter
in Port Washington, New York, she loved me and purred all the time. She was wasting away and the doctor said it was time.
I am sad and will miss her.

Where are the Right Words?

Dear Ross,
My heart goes out to you. Ross you are so very wise to remain active with interests both at home and in the community. Often single men become more isolated in retirement, the days feel long and the house way too quiet. There's nothing like waking up to the cat putting it's paw in your mouth, giving you a bath or leaping through the air to chase shadows or flies while you're trying to sleep. God is so easy to talk to in a time like this. God's compassion knows no bounds, he grieved the plight of his people as well as the death of a Beloved son. God knows all about grief and healing, he designed both. Thankfully, you know all about God. Make some time to talk it out with the Source of Love and Advocate for our good.

I wish to add that the animal hospital will give me a paw print from my cat that they make in clay. When I receive the ashes back, I take them to my parish to be blessed, then I send them to my former parish in Palm Desert, California where I have purchased spaces in their pet columbarium. I already have sent the ashes from my two dogs and a previous cat there.

Ross I am so sorry to hear about Liesl. I remember her well. Just know that you did the kindest thing possible for her. Know that you are in my thoughts.

I'm so sorry to hear this. It's never easy to make the decision to put a pet down, no matter how long you've known it must be done, but you'll always know that you gave her the best life possible.

I am so sorry.

I have been through this several times the last few years. Currently I am kittyless.

I often wonder why God gives us such devoted and loyal friends and then makes us outlive them.

i'm very sorry

to hear about your kitty lieselotte, you mentioned to me 2 weeks ago that she was weakeneing. it is such a hard thing to do, having just done it myself! unbelievably painful yet we know it has to be done for their sake!

really sorry to hear that, hope you are feeling better soon. and lieselotte is in kitty heaven now!

i like to think that all the things we had and have in life here on earth that we loved and gave us love will be with us when we die. God does say "i will wipe away every tear".

maybe this world is just a dream we make up, if we are dreaming it when we die maybe we get to keep the good parts!
that would include our pets we love so much!

I am very sorry for your loss, and I know this is not an easy time for you, but always remember that she lived a life filled with love and happiness, and that was because of you. She knows.

I am very sorry

You have my heartfelt sympathies.
And I am very glad you adopted. There are so many cats and dogs who need people to love them as you have.

I am so sorry!

I am so sorry to hear this. :-( It breaks my heart to see how much pain we go through when we lose one of our furry family members. They are never here long enough but give us a lifetime of love in the short time they are here.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and yours.

Ross, sorry do read about your Lieselotte. I've had to do that myself, and might have to do it again. I have been more upset loosing a furry family member than loosing some of my human family.

Sorry to hear this Ross.......

Back in the mid 90s I had to go through that with a cat I had for 17 years. She was born crippled and was never able to really walk - when she stood up her back end would fall over - no coordination there but front was ok so, since she was not in pain or suffering in any way, we decided to keep her and she was an indoor cat all her life except when we would take her out during the summer months and only when we could watch her - she could not have defended herself if it were needed.

Good care and being indoors is one of the reasons she lived so long but it just crushed me to have to have her put to sleep - cried much over that one. I have a 14 year old cat now that my wife got for me when we were dating so her age is also the number of years we've been married. I'm so afraid of loosing her but hoping that she will stay in good health - hope she will be with us 20+ years.

Again, my condolances Ross on this loss - hope in time you will be able to have another - they are such lovable animals.... cats are definately my favorite.

Oh, Ross, having to do this is so heart wrenching! A part of you dies with the passing of pets because they're your children. I'm so sorry. Like most others have said, you gave her the best home you could and didn't allow her suffer. May you be blessed in knowing you did what was right.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, I pick up the ashes at the vet and bring them to my church (Episcopal) to be blessed, then I send them to my former parish in Palm Desert, California to rest in the pet columbarium where I have purchased a number of spaces.
Currently, I have two dogs and my first cat resting there.

My heartfelt and deepest thanks to everyone for their kind words.
I can always count on my washing machine family.

Ross

I am going to get a new kitten soon but I want to find that special cat that picks me out. I will name her Anneliese after my old cat Lieselotte.
