My first Miele's...a W784 washer & T388C Dryer

Well, I've bought my first Miele washer and dryer pair. Probably one of the best bargains in a long time: only AU$26.00 for the pair!

The dryer works fine, but the washer has an issue with not pumping the water out properly.

For the Miele experts, from what I've read, it's either a faulty sensor or pump itself...apparently this can be tested by taking the cap off the front and set the washer to spin only. Should the impeller be running at all when doing this test?

Any help would be appreciated.

Apart from this, they're in very good condition. I've never experienced just how heavy a Miele washer is!

I would LOVE to have such a Miele set, I remember seeing them on sale in the mid 1980s (actually john Lewis, Oxford Street, London) and being fascinated by the progress indicator going round when a spin cycle was chosen. Sadly, at the time, they were WAY beyond my means. I would happily make room for a set like this

Oh goodness, a vintage TOL Miele set! IIRC some series had trouble with the electronics. I love those dark control panels with the big touch buttons. The timer is indeed a rapid advance one. Great find!! I hope you can solve the problem with the washer.

Leon, what a super find!  I love that set.  Pumps abound for this model, yes the impeller should run all the time during any drain or spin phases.  Check for any blockages first, also these models hate suds locks and sometimes during the interim spins the suds don't completely get emptied, at least that's what I found in my 1065.

...and a true 'commercial quality' set for domestic use.

Get the washer going and it should be happy as a semi-daily driver for at least another 10 years!

Hi Leon,

I know it's a cheeky request, but...

I don't suppose you could help me out could you, & take a photo of the W784, with the front panel swung open to show the interior components, could you?

You'd be really helping me out, unfortunately, my Navitronic has a removable front panel, rather than a swing open front like yours does.

I've added a pic of my Servis to give you an idea of the angle of the pic, as I'd need it face on. as shown in the pic below.

Hi Leon.

The W784 and matching dryer, for me, are the definitive Miele's from the mid 80s. V smart styling and all those chunky chromed buttons, with the classic timedial.

A great pair of machines and, like Al, would certainly make space for a set were one to surface over here.
About three years ago I was picking up an Ariston/Colston 950XD washer dryer. The bloke it was being collected from had a W784 in his shed - had been his parents machine, but required a repair. Had he offered it for sale and the price was right, two machines would have been collected that day:-(
