So I moved to a knew place and left my old units behind. After making a trips to the laundromat for a month the missus said we needed to purchase a set.

Well I was tight on cash so Craigslist here I come. Picked up a set of matching (maybe) Kenmores.

The washer is a 1992 60 series model and the dryer seems to be a 92 60 series as well. I paid 300 for them both delivered.

The washer works flawlessly and honestly gets our clothes much cleaner than our old "new model" one did. The dryer not so good. The place honored their 90 day warranty and had to come out 3 times within the first week twice to make repairs (non of which lasted for more than 5 minutes) I'm a very self reliant guy so my little lady suggested I fix it myself. So for about 30.00 I replaced all the stats and fuses and installed a new element. Searching for parts led me to this wonderful forum.

Well without further delay here they are. If anyone know what type of agitator this washer should have please let me know.

Hello (insert name here) or Muffin80, WELCOME to AW.org!

It looks like the washer is a 24" model rather than the standard 27" or 29" model.   Anyway, CONGRATS!

Also, congrats on the dryer repair!

Are you thinking the agitator has been swapped or changed out?   Post a photo of what is has in place and someone will tell you if it's correct or not.

Thanks guys for the warm welcome. My name is Kris btw. I read up on some of the old kenmore agitators penta vane, swirl, vari vane and I'm not sure where mine falls in. The cap seems to be knew but the agitator looks rather old.

I have restored cars all my adult life and am rather burnt out with that hobby. This one seems to be really enjoyable so far

That is a very reliable and sturdy washer. The only thing that may fail is the coupler which connects the motor to the transmission. It also looks as though the cabinet has been replaced and it should have a side opening lid as opposed to one that lifts to the back.

Welcome to AWO!

That agitator can also be changed out for a DualAction version with the spiral top....

we all have opinions of them, but it really helps move the load with that short stroke tranny.....but it's your choice.....check out videos on YouTube....

but thats about all that will fit your machine, straight vane and the dualaction...

a fabric softner dispenser can also be added on top of the agitator...if you choose

Thanks for the replies. The cabinet being wrong would explain the lid hitting the knob and cutting it off if I open the lid to fast.

I was wondering if it could be changed to the D/A agitator, so thanks for confirming. What does the fabric softener dispenser look like for this model? I'd really like on of those.

this is the Kenmore version of the dual action.....I think this is their best design of the spirals, they are angled downward to grab and push the clothes down better than the straight out vanes

note....the dispenser is not built in, so you have to add the one from the other link, which snaps on top...

Thanks so much for those links! Now to figure out which one I want, lol. Is it wrong if i buy several to play with? This is turning into a fun little hobby. My wife gets a kick out of my interest in this stuff.

I have fond memories of being young and helping my mom do laundry on an old GE filter flo. Adding clothes butting the little hat on and adding the soap powder. You guys have brought back real good memories for me. Thanks again to everyone for the kindness and help.

Muffins80,

The model number you cited -- LA5460XTW1 -- is a Whirlpool model, not a Kenmore model ... which supports the observation that the outer cabinet with a back-opening lid (Whirlpool-style) is not the machine's original.  The original cabinet would have a lid that opens toward the left side which would be proper Kenmore-style for that time.  Doesn't matter regards to functioning of the machine, and the various agitators are mostly interchangeable.

Indeed it is the wrong cabinet. I also found a thing under the lid door stating "Stylemaster 4213631" I'm now curious of what the real model # is.

Agitator

Is it me, but the picture of the tub appeared to be the smaller capacity tub? They did make a DA for the smaller tub but the pictures I looked at all had large capacity DA agitators. I don't think the large capacity DA agitator will fit? The link muffin80 posted shows the correct DA. It was always distinguished by the upward curve at the end of the base.
