This is my Hoover convertible. I like it very much! I need to know more about it though. Can anyone tell me the year this vacuum was made?I have been trying to guess that for 2 months now.Hope you like it!

tool converter shift

When did Hoover change from the rear plug in converter that shifted the motor to high speed to the using a front converter that fitted over the beater-bar opening.

Mixguy, Jeff or someone else might have a better idea, but I think it was long about the late 70s. My "denim" Convertible, which I believe was made in the late 70s, still has a metal base but used front conversion tools, the setup looked sort of like a Eureka.

I got the same thing too, a U4395, found at Topeka vacuum with a bojack cord (is it possible to spray paint the black replacement cords white to make it look more original? or would I have a zebra cord?) It is a mid-80's model 1984-1988 if you Google News Archive the model number
