Ok, to look at it, you probably think I've gone off the deep end due to all this election stuff, and have started to take an interest in overwrought 70's Mediterranean furniture (as well as mannequins, but to be fair, I've had them for years).

And the clincher was the sales slip from the Late, Great Frederick & Nelson (A division of Marshall Fields!) from December of 1978. Somebody must have had a very merry Christmas, because they paid a cool $508 bucks cash for this unit

Perhaps I misspoke. One of the girls actually looks like an Russian mail order bride this month, what with that hair and all... ;-)

The other one (the one in the picture with the hi-fi) is still looking summery and vacuous. (she always looks vacuous, come to think of it) But I couldn't get a good shot of her. She's posing with a constellation.

You got it Pete - I think it's all plastic. Pretty much the schmaltziest thing ever! I can't understand how that look ever caught on. But it sounds great, and I'm a sucker for anything that has a hide-way aspect.

Rest assured this thing is not going in the living room. It fits in nicely in the basement family room, which is where all the rest of the kitsch is. It will give the rain lamps someone to hang out with ;-)

Although I was thinking that it might be kind of fun to try to do an extreme makeover on it, to see if I can get it to look a bit more mod. That's a project for one of our cold dark winter day, which are fast approaching.
