I agree Skip, every vacuum is great out there to someone. Being a washer guy as well, I'm an 'equal brand' person and don't prefer one over the other...I just happen to have more Hoover vacuums and GE washers than other brands. While some of us may prefer Maytag over Frigidaire or vice-versa, we don't necessarily bash other brands or strongly support one. It doesn't make any difference in the long run...they're all great.
I have to say that the Dyson has to be the BEST bagless vacuum to date, though, no others even come close although there have been some good copies lately. Those 5127 prototypes really paid off with the Dual Cyclone design, and each subsequent design has been a great improvement. I will say the DC18 Slim sounds nice, and I can't wait to play with one this summer. Who knows, I may get one of those for myself as well. What I'm really curious about though is how, a couple of years down the road, it will fare as far as competition with the Oreck is concerned. The XL Ultra and XL21 are $549.95 and $749.95, respectively, and I'm trying to remember if the DC18 was the same price as the XL Ultra. Might be a tiny bit more, however I do know it's less than the XL21.
The Dyson I'm really looking forward to, though, is the DC21 Stowaway with the electric Motorhead. It will be released to special independent dealers on March 19, 3 months before its official release in June. I saw some pictures of it, and it's a fine machine. Apparently it is the same aggressive brushroll and nozzle that the DC17 uses, which would be an awesome cleaner. I can't wait!
Speaking of the Hoover Z, I saw the Z400 at Home Depot for $99, and I'm really tempted to pick one up. To me it doesn't matter how heavy it is or if the self-cleaning filter doesn't work for fine dust. It just sounds cool, and it's definitely a future collectors item. I don't think I would have much trouble with it as I don't abuse a machine like most average users would. Of course, seeing as how I'm using a Kirby Ultimate G, anything even slightly lighter than that would be an improvement, LOL.
