Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Wow - great laundry room Martin!!

Are the avocado machines Speed Queens??    How much of the plumbing work did you do??  The setup looks good and sturdy!!

And of course, I love the mixer collection!   If you ever need parts or bowls,  I have hundreds...

Thank you for sharing!

Thanks for all the compliments......it ain't much, but its my little paradise...just working with what I got....I should have done pics way back when I bought the house in 1993.....the backroom had just a huge boiler/hotwater setup.....the front room was just a laundry tub, cold water only, and the electric dryer was never vented outside, the walls were black, all mold, once cleaned only to find the walls were actually pepto bismol puke, and the washer ran off the only light in the center of the room.....I updated back then, but not to the extent I did this time around......fresh paint just makes it look brighter and cleaner....and yes I am a home handy man.....I relocated the hotwater heater under the stairs to give room to line up the Neptunes....simple plumbing and added outlets across the room......for the front room, I ripped out all the plumbing and started new, and leaving ports to add more if needed, also moved the sink to the other corner and raised it, and intalled new outlets and lights.....the dehumidifier has its own standpipe, on full automatic now.....didn't think I was ever gonna get this completed to this point.....

now I can move onto the rest of the house, finishing little projects, it never ends....

Paul....I may have to contact you later......I need one beater for a mixer.....I'll send you a pic to match it up....yes, the avocado set are Speed Queen Solid Tubs, reversing motor...the white one has banging solenoids...

and Yes Darren....I want to get started on the other house, and have all the machines there hooked up at once too.....just have to work on a plan of what goes where.....

Lets pick a play date and do a mini-wash-in.......any members from surrounding areas are welcome.....Bring Laundry!.....

this pic is already the start of the other house.....yes another complete Fleet of Neptunes......I'm figuring dailydrivers on this wall, and vintage on the other...

A little off the subject...

Yogi, in the first picture, with the neptunes, that white PVC pipe going out the wall - is that for radon? Does it go outside of the side of the house? I think we might need one and I want it inside the house. Did that have to be installed when you moved in?

No Bob...the white 4 inch pipes are vent lines for the dryers...each one has its own.....their inexpensive, easy to work with and install, and theres minimal lint build up with these.....

we don't seem to see too many issues of radon problems here in South Jersey.......but when I lived in Central Jersey, I seen alot of these radon removal blowers in the newer homes...

Martin, Martin, Martin...

You've been a busy guy! How much to "borrow" you for a week or so? There's a certain St. Louis basement that needs your skills. Plural.

That's a nice, inviting space you have there--but wait, no IRONING board? Wassup wit dat?

We need to compare notes on that mixer collection, too!

Keith

Martin,

Thank you for paying homage to Ripon, WI with those beautiful Speed Queens standing so pretty, all in a row!  I too have the same Mixmaster that you have on the middle shelf of your hutch.  I love mine, and it's a true workhorse.  Mine has made many a cake, and hopefully, many more to come.

Yes Eric their gas.......not much different than the direct vent water heater and boiler use(schedule40 which is thicker).....I use the thinner stuff used for drainage ditches and gutters.........it comes in 10 foot lengths for about 7.00, and elbows run about 3.00.....a few extra fittings(gavanized duct to duct fittings, a 90degree one that attaches to the dryer, and on the Neptunes I used a piece of flex tube to aid in putting it on and sliding the dryer in place.....on the Whirlpool, its PVC the whole entire run from the back of the dryer to the outside.....

I start with the "flared" end of the pipe, and connect just the louvered vent, drill holes and rivet together, slide this into the opening of the house and secure(the louvers are removable to clean the run with a brush if necessary), inside I use an elbow to come down and thru various options to connect to the dryer......only a few seams are glued, allowing to take it apart if necessary......

I just dont have the lint build up in these that I do with the galvanized pipes and fittings.....special silver duct tape not needed.......

just make sure when you cut this stuff, to smooth off any jagged edges....

Very Impressed

Excellent plumbimg!!!! Did you do it yourself ? Very impressed with the whole project. Congratulations !!! Very fine job.

RIGID PLASTIC DRYER VENT PIPEING

Like Martin states this stuff stays cleaner than rigid aluminum or steel pipe does. That said it does satisfy code requirements except when run under concert slabs or underground. We see the same problem with the flexible aluminum vent tubing, it clogs far faster than the wildly despised plastic tubing that was used for decades.

The problem is that if the dryer catches fire the plastic venting may also start to burn and set surrounding areas on fire. But all good dryers built since around the early 1980s have thermal cut offs in the exhaust blower housings that will cut off the dryer if they reach an exhaust temperature of around 200 degrees F. Interestingly most GE and Frigidare dryers still do not have these safety cut offs in their blower housings.

So for my self I am sticking a rigid all metal exhaust systems for my dryers especially the older ones. And in fact on some of the older WP built dryers that Jason and I have rebuilt we have added the thermal cut outs to them as an added precaution.
