my laundry has always the same smell, even with diferent detergents

Hello, I've noticed that my laundry has quite always the same smell even if I change the detergent. Yes OK, if I change the detergent it has a different smell when I take the load out of the washer, but after drying in the dryer the load has the "old" same smell. I mean, don't get me wrong, the smell is nice but I would like to change.
Is it possible that the clothes are so saturated with a smell that this one became prevalent.
Have you experienced the same or is it just me?

Its the dryer.... If you hang them out on a line, you will smell a difference. The dryer takes a lot of the smell from the detergents and softner out of the clothes

The scent of fabric softener seems to permeate plastic parts in a dryer, so your dryer will usually smell like the softener you use most often. Once the odour is in the plastic parts, it is usually permanent. The Maytag dryer I had in Atlanta was bought from a woman who used Bounce dryer sheets, and the dryer smelled like Bounce the whole time I owned it. Only the fins in the dryer were plastic, and still, they retained that odour. I did replace the lint filter, but that did not make the odour go away, only diminish over time. It did not make my clothes smell like Bounce; I used a liquid softener in the Maytag washer's dispenser cup, and my clothes smelled like that softener.

Thanks for your opinions. I think you are right that the cause is in the dryer. Indeed, when I hang them out on a line the smell is different. If I line dry clothes washed with Dash detergent they has a fantastic smell.

Ingemar..... I wish we had Dash here again. My parents always used this detergent. I wonder if it is the same?

Hi Ingemar, is the Dash you're using the same as the Italian one? I stopped using it as it became too strong for my tastes

Hi Rey, I remember your lemon Dash the first time I was in the USA. It was in 1994, but since than I haven't seen it anymore.
Well it's not the same, but it's definitely a low sudsing detergent and it's very good. Maybe too much bluing.
What a shame P&G does not produce Dash anymore in the States.

Hi Gabriele, I use the italian Dash, but in some stores we also have the german Dash (it's like your Bolt). I prefer the italian Dash because is better. The german one is a "second" detergent since Ariel is the first there. (P&G speaking) Yes I know the smell is getting more and more strong, you are right!

Dash Fragrance

Ingemar, how would you describe the scent of the Dash product that you now use? The Dash advertisement in today's Picture of the Day is what many of us in the US remember and used. It was definitely a low sudsing detergent.

The high-sudsing lemon scented product that you saw in 1994 was what P&G offered just before the US Dash version was discontinued. The previous version did not smell like lemons, did not require as much to use per load, and had a scent similar to the "Clean Linen" fragrance available in this country at present.

At that time the US Dash was repositioned as a budget brand, then discontinued. Some people liked it, others did not.

Everytime i come back to these places it's like it were the first time

I have the Alps close to me, so I'm used to them. Anyway the Soca Valley is a unique beauty, hard to find elsewhere.

Do you use fabric softener? If you do, that may be "caked" into the clothes, and what not. It takes a while for it to go away.

I miss Dash we used the low suds version when I was a kid. I also liked the lemon version.i wish that I could get some now.

interesting, I was just wondering about the smell of the US Dash befor the lemon scent and I didn't know that the last version was high sudsing. Well the one (italian) I am using has a very strong smell and it's something like sweet citrus.
This is the new scent, previously was a mix between clean linen and sweet citrus. I think the new detergent smells more and mor like candys. I miss the old "fresh and clean" versions.

yes I use fabric softener, but a smaller amount wen I use the liquid one. I use also dryer sheets, but not all the time, depends on the load.

Maybe using a bit too much fabric softener? I use just a drop when I use it, just enought to give a very, very light fragrance, which wears off after use, so that the next time I wash them, if I use no softener, you can't smell a thing but the scent from the detergent. Since fabric softeners are oil/wax based, too much of it may be difficult to remove in later washings, thus the leftover scent?? Just a thought....

To Me...

Even though it's been years and years since I've used it, from what I can remember, the scent of powdered Tide HE resembles pre-lemon Dash.

When Lemon Dash was introduced, it's competitor at the time was Leaver Brother's Surf. Both were known to "fight stains and odors", but Lemon Dash did it at a more economical price.
