I decided to get a new dryer etc

the cost of parts and labor was not feasible

so out with the old in with the new

well new to me

going to break this post up so it is easier to read

the pilot light will not stay lit

it takes over an hour to stay lit

But once the dryer is started 5 minutes later the pilot goes out but the dryer continues to run

also the blower is making a racket

I replaced it as the cost of parts and labor would add up to a new dryer
if the parts could even be found to fix it

the dryer I got is new to me

BUT

is used refurbished and except for a few scratches is pristine in appearance

And

is vintage of course

and advice from this fine community

and ask a lot of questions

If I ever have these problems, it’s going to get fixed. Not going to get rid of a fine piece of machinery over something as simple as a pilot light, belts, thermostat, or dry blower bearing. Have taught myself how to work on the Maytag HOH dryers, read through all these archives and still look through the archives from time to time to be sure. Maytag HOH dryers aren’t going to regenerate or repair themselves like Christine the 1958 Plymouth Fury will.

I got a Maytag dg608

it is identical to the de808 dryer that matches my Maytag a806 washer

except for gas vs electric

console

and the color of them

but

I am going to have to relearn to use a dryer like this cause I have not used the 808 in about 15 years

I have good dress shirts I need to dry and need advice on how to set the dryer

On my DE808 dryer, I have the timer dial set to "Regular" and the button switches set to "Regular Temp" and "Normal Dryness" 99% of the time. I use the "Extra Dryness" button when drying throw rugs since they are very thick cotton ones. The dryness sensor placement on the SOH dryers are located in front bulkhead and it's not in the ideal location like the HOH's which are locating in the baffles, much larger in size, and always in the path of the clothing.

this is my Maytag a606s suds saver washer that the timer dial died on and I did not notice for about a few minutes

I think i have a video on it

Timer motor issue is probably stripped gear if it's a Kington timer motor, or seized gears if Mallory. Respond with the part# on the timer body and we can help guide you to the repair.

Your 606S was birthed in December, 1974.

My Maytag a806s in avocado is the same way I think

like my 606s the plate with the model and serial number is on the back of the machine

My Maytags" Birthdate

I know this has been discussed in the past, but I forgot how one determines the manufacture date based on the letters at the end of the appliance's serial number. Can someone help? My A806 serial number ends in OM, the DE806 ends in KW. Thanks a lot in advance, David
