My "New" Frigidaire Jet Cone Washer

Today we drove from North Georgia to "Rocky Top" Tennessee and picked up our Frigidaire Jet Cone Washer. I will try tomorrow and see if it works as we are too tired tonight to try it out! It hasn't been started in many years (I think maybe 15). It is the Jet Cone Frigidaire when GM still owned it , I hope I can figure out how to determine what year etc it is. I will attempt to up load a picture for you guys. I know that I will need additional advise, help etc. I will give an update on it tomorrow! Thanks in advance!!! Tim

Sorry about Frigidaire Washer Picture!

Okay, we got the washer running today. We found out that it is a 1977 WC model. We downloaded a bunch of stuff from AW regarding tech talk. We actually found the lint filter!!!! Yeah! It was down in the washer cabinet in the back. I found it when I took off the front!!! In the cabinet it was VERY dirty and had a ton of lint! That we vacuumed and swept out. Lot of roach droppings too! There was a little leak that I think is coming from the water pump but it is only leaking when the water is being pumped out! Not sure if that can be remedied with a new gasket or what? I also noticed a little rust on the inside of the washer porcelain drum or is it a basket? anyway can anybody tell me the best fix for that? I really appreciate it! I am so new at this and hope I am posting responding etc the correct way!

Leak from pump

Thanks so much for replying! I took a picture it is coming from where seam of the pump is screwed together. It's only drips and it only seems to be leaking when the water is being pumped out during the spin cycle. There is also a few drips from the where the hose is clamped. However I fingered it needs a new hose and clamp. Hope this makes sense! Also what does everyone use to remove rust and repaint the porcelain tub. Mine has some minor rust in the for bottom of the tub. Thanks for your help!

Sometimes (but not always) if the leak is coming from the pump seam a couple of washes with really hot water expands the seal and leak stops for good. Have you washed in hot water in the machine (very hot water like having the water heater set at 145-150?).

If that doesn't do the trick you can take the pump out and take off the cover. Use remove the old seal and any extra cork material that is suck to the edge. The you can then cut a new seal with an exacto-knife by going to the hardware store or an auto parts store and buying "cork on a roll". You can get it on Amazon just as easily:

Thanks so much! I have not tried the hot water trick, I just have it in the garage with a water hose hooked up to it and the discharge hose running out the back of the garage. I will try that. I am so new to this arena but it seems so far a lot of fun! I was really surprised that she started up it belonged to the owner's grandmother and had not be started in about 15 years! But it had at least be stored in her old house! Any ideas about the rust in the tub? Is that normal. My washer is a 1977 Frigidaire WC (I think). we got it from someone who live out in the country and probably used well water which caused the rust. Its not bad but something I need to attend to! What washer or washers do you have? Thanks again for your advice! Tim

Scratch what I said about using cork to seal that pump. I've only worked on older Frigidaire washers which used cork seals. The 1/18 pump seems to use a rubber ring gasket.

After the hot water trick the first thing I would try is to simply tighten the screws that hold the pump housing together, sometimes they loosen a bit over the years with vibration. After that you can try to remove the rubber gasket and clean it and soak it in hot water. If that doesn't do the trick you can put a bead of automotive grade silicone on top of the gasket which should seal it up. I use this stuff for Permatex Blue silicone for washer repairs like this:

As for the rust I would take a 3M scrubber pad and use gently to try to remove the rust. If there is a bare spot where the rust was you can use porcelain chip repair paint to coat the spot.
