Congratulations on your new to you Maytag set, if you want to keep these for the long run, you should pull the washer basket out and clean any mineral buildup and touchup any rust areas in the outer wash tub With an epoxy enamel also consider putting in a new main center seal or at least lubricating everything.
Last thing you’ll ever have to worry about is washer belts they’ll be available forever, but I would get an extra timer may be an inlet valve for the machine.
On the dryer, I’d also get it extra timer for it. Most of the parts will probably be available for the dryer for a long time. There are many problem areas on those dryers, but there are with most dryers.
I’m sure you realize you could reverse the dryer door to make it easier to use.
What’s your long-term goal for these machines? How many loads a week do you do, etc. all that would make a difference in how much work you do to try to keep them working.
