Well tonight i picked up my 80s servis quartz washer! i've only had it runnin about 30mins its abit late to be running it in my garage.

So far i tried out the rinse/spin option to clear it out. the rinse was high up the door & the spin from distribution straight up to 1000rpm which i was very pleased with.

i then began to run a synthetic cycle. the drum is the "spincare" type. basically the 80s version of a honeycomb drum. no holes in it!

the tumbles are faster than normal. which makes for splashy fun so far im thrilled to bits to finally own a machine i grew up with, my parents friends had a similiar model & i spent many weekends watching it. so to finally get my hands on one makes me extremely pleased.

heres a pic with more & videos to follow.

Yay!!!!!

Well done Darren

Nothing like that feeling getting the machine you want, I`m sure you will get much pleasure out of this one!!!

This is the same machine as the original Quartz, the model 600, just with updated fascia & full width door, it also came with a full door to take colour panels etc.

Try the special "Multi-Fabric Wash & let us know what you think, but remember "Only with Ariel"

Happy washing, Mike

p.s. I`m sure now you will be able to convince Jon about the benefits of "Washing with Servis"...LOL

HoneyComb has tiny holes.
But your FL has "no holes in it". Sound strange.

hey guys,
Mike!:D did you get the washerdryer that was on ebay a while back? i do love this machine. arent the tumbles about 60rpm? its quiter than my hoovers. seems to have worn well. one lady owner i think. though i think it had family washes a few years ago.

will try that programme tonight & yes "only with ariel:D"

i think its a 1000rpm. pretty sure. doesnt say anywhere on the machine though.

*AND now wonder no more, heres a pic of tht drum! *

Interesting machine Darren, congratulations!! Impressive that there are no holes in that drum. Not even at the back or so for removing the water or is the water all removed via the front of the drum?

Now we got you busy taking pictures, could you make a picture of the control panel too?

Louis

Great machine darren, one of my ultimate dream machines, i assume from the pic that it has one of those big doors that is actually the whole front of the machine. Good luck with it and can't wait to see pics and video.
Matt

Now, Lavamat Jons pc is not letting him post so i'm posting for him, he says its great and it sounded great on the phone and he apologizes for his computer being such an a$$

Take care,
Matt (and Jon)

Spincare Drum

The spincare drum was developed for the new Servis Quartz model 600 in 1981, Servis developed this model after working extensively with Proctor & Gamble, i.e. A New Machine, New Powder (Ariel)for the era etc...

There are vanes in the back & front of the drum and this is where the water enters and is spun out, the drum is also shaped, it has a ridge in the middle. It also has a slightly faster wash speed , about 60rpm, and has high water levels which give it a very splashy action.

This was a World First, as Servis had developed Quartz microchips from their first computer controlled machine the "Servis Selectronic" back in 1977.

The Servis company as was reminds me of being very similar to Maytag, solid expensive machines, built from a manufacturing experience and having a very loyal customer base....

Yay!!

I've told you millions of times before darren, but I have to say that is a beautiful machine - it sounded great when we were chatting on the phone the other night (although I dunno if your neighbours thought it did lol). Can't wait to test drive it with ya tomorrow :-).

Mike - it's just a shame that both Ariel powder and Servis are no longer as good as their vintage cousins :-(.

Jon (who's computer is now letting him post!)

Are these openings for entry/exit of water?

Are these shadows? Should this part be a smooth surface?

Servis Quartz

Congrats Darren!! Such an awesome, classy machine...what clean lines on the styling, and that drum is nice! Can't wait for more pics/videos! :)

What year would this machine be?

Hey Guys,
Jon:p- You're in for a treat when you come over today,. i have about 7 loads to do! servis style of course:p

CleanteamofNY- the door is on a button release & unlike any other machine i've seen the full panel of the door opens! unique thing that servis used to do.

the7- those are the water entry/exit points. theres a set around the front too...& the shadowing is the design of the drum so the water drains out! its all very clever:D

westytoploader- thanks for the comments, its about 1986 i think....dont quote me on that im still tryin to find a year & a spinspeed lol. though im pretty sure thats 1000rpm the tumbles are really cool with them being that little bit faster at 60rpm. very splashy when full amount of waters used!

will have pics & videos from todays loads later on

Darren

Yay!!! Can't wait :-).

Will be armed with a camera, and my new phone lets me record movies that last for longer than 30 seconds :-). Would have brought some of my laundry round to yours but I have jeans and towels to do and I really don't fancy lugging them home as they're heavy when wet! Lol. Will be great to use a proper Servis where the door and soap dispenser doesn't fall off in your hand ;-).

Jon

hey!
thanks for clarifying that mike! i used the delicate programme the other nite on some darks. very good it was too.

how does the coolwash button work? does it lower it by 10degrees or something like that? how bout the bio button too? that just extend the cycle?

Darren

Options

COOL WASH

When selected with any main programme, will reduce the temp to 30d only, and increases the washtime by 4 times the programme length....Its an economy wash for use with cool water detergents and wash load not to heavily soiled...

"BIO" BIOLOGICAL WASH

This option is designed for use with Ariel Automatic & Bold 3. The heating process is in two stages,

Stage 1: 10 min gentle wash up to 30d, and held for ten mins.

Stage 2: Staged heating up to programme temp, use with all programmes except woolens. Basically the first profile wash.

Cheers, Mike

Quartz Power

Darren love the pics, i've just picked up a Quartz 1300 which is the later model just doing a Bio wash now. Haven't tried the Multi fabric one yet. Will post some pics soon and try and do a video. The spin is great on the 1300 goes up in 3 stages and has some form of spin balancing before it starts the spin. starts off very slow tumble and then up to normal speed before lanching itself suddenly into a 600 spin then 1000 then 1300. Great.

Hey Sparkcymru!
that machine sounds very good! i tell ya my machine is extremely solid on spin. it hasnt moved v much like my logic likes to now & again. i look forward to seein some pics & a video of that! very lucky! im running the multi fabric cycle now cant really see what its like because its so cold out in my garage i came in for a coffee to warm up a little! lol did notice that it started high level wash with short tumbles. looks entertaining!

Darren

Multi Fabric Wash

Hi Darren

Yes its designed as an economy wash, will start a gentle wash at 30d followed by a "SOAK" n "Tumble" which lasts 4 hrs, there are 3 ways to use this:

1. Washing a mixed load of lightly soiled clothes at low temp.

2. As a Super Pre-Wash.

3. As an Economy Wash with a low temp main wash programme. ie, instead of whites 95, you do the multi fabric as a pre-wash and then a 40d wash...

These machines do tend to be stable.

Does this model go straight up to 1000rpm into the final spin at the end??
