Nothing new!

There was, some years ago, a thing like that - just mechanically like an air-pump - on the market at QVC here in Germany.
I do the same by just inserting a little plastic tube from a former ball-pen into the plastic bag and just suck the air out with my mouth before I close the package.
No need for an "appliance" for that! lol
But it keeps things fresh longer in the fridge and also is better for freezer stuff as these things will freeze quicker and more equally and need less space in the freezer.
Also there's a pump available on the market here with fitting plastic containers in which you can keep things under vaccuum as well!

I got one of those, too! Okay, it's a gadget I don't technically need, but it was on sale and I had a coupon. Plus, I freeze a lot of stuff so I could justify it.

Being not very bright, I didn't think to get more bags for it because the package said it contained some. Well, the ones that are in there are the size of sandwich bags; not very useful for freezing.

Okay Maggie, fess up; did you "apply the sealer to the human body" like the instructions distinctly tell you NOT to do? It creates quite a suction, doesn't it?

heh heh, yes of course I had to test the suction - on my forearm. It's got quite a draw!

One would be prudent to exercise discretion as to where on one's body one tests it, lest one receive a nasty (and surely painful) hickey in an inconvenient location!!
