My TR5 does not get my clothes clean

Look I appreciate you guys having some passion for washers. I do not. I simply want clean clothes.

I made the mistake of buying a TR5 a little over a month ago (2018 model) because so many people recommend SQ. It will not even get coffee stains out of my white t shirts.

I will sell it for $400 FOB my porch in Louisiana if someone wants it. If you love TR5s that should be a great price.

What I would appreciate is a recommendation for new machine OR a recommendation for a good source of rebuilt old machines that will clean clothes.

Check with local resale shops or independent servicers for rebuilt or good-condition Whirlpool (Kenmore, Roper, KitchenAid) direct-drive machines from ~2006 and prior.
Or find something less-than pristine at a resale shop, CraigsList or Facebook Marketplace and refurb it yourself.

ttw, you should launch a new thread requesting advice.

Maytag's commercial top loader seems to be the closest you can get to the 2017 and earlier Speed Queens for old school wash action, and that is likely what most here would recommend.

You should also contact the dealer who sold you the SQ and advise that you want to return it and get something else, such as the Maytag, if that dealer sells them. The makers of SQ need to understand that most people are not happy with the 2018 wash system, and dealers will certainly let them know if people are returning these machines in droves. You have a valid case, and you are certainly not the first person who would like to return their 2018 SQ.

I'm really a sad case...

When my Atlantis started acting up (needs a no-longer-made timer/control module) I was motivated by all the chat on here about the 2017 Speed Queens being the last of their kind and by members saying "your Maytags aren't Maytags at all you ninny, they're Norge" so I bought a TOL SQ pair...one from a town 40 miles away, one from the other side of the Country. This was several months ago. Where are they today? Covered up in the garage about 15 feet from the laundry room. My back is currently shot, handyman is busy and friends are all prima-donnas and can't lift anything heavier than a toaster. The pool guy saw them and said "yikes, that's a lotta buttons!" Fortunately they have a very long warranty provided they ever see gas, electricity or water.

As stupid as this seems, the new Internet TV still sits on the floor turned to the wall so the cleaning ladies won't hit it with the power-drive Hoover and the new pricey Dell computer is in an unopened box next to the front door. Both of these items have a 2-year warranty which is almost half over. Dumb Dumb Dumb! Last month I had what the ICU doctors called a near-death experience. My hemoglobin level dropped below 4, normal is about 7, a result of taking handfuls of nsaids...aspirin, ibuprofen and naproxin daily to combat back pain. They said if I had waited one more hour to call the paramedics my heart would have stopped. I sort of dismissed all of this as just talk because Eisenhower Medical Center wants repeat business from heavily insured people. I guess it was not. I would like to do a load or two in the new Speed Queens before I'm history.

correction...

Normal hemoglobin levels for my age is 12 to 15...not 7. It's serious stuff. (Sorry, I'm way off track considering this is a thread about Speed Queen)

an afterthought...

I apologize for discussing a personal medical condition on this website. It certainly has no place here.

@twintubdexter

I can see the relevance for you telling us how you are unable to test out a brand new washer due to back issues having suffered a back problem since high school and even now having days when unable to move let alone lift a washer and dryer.
I wish you a speedy recovery and the ability to find some less flakey friends who would be willing to move the machines for you :)

Take care and stay safe xx

Good detergent

To get clothes clean in one of the new Speed Queen machines you really need to use a good detergent. Liquid Tide with Bleach would be the minimum. Because a good detergent will work with very little agitation. Should get a coffee stain out. I guess I was lucky to get a 2017 SQ.

well it is only a 2018 model, basically a proto-type, which we all know, will have a few bugs to iron out, without a doubt, some changes will be made, most likely to the wash action....

a few pros this machine has over the transmission versions.....

a. a separate water pump

b. a direct non-slip belt

c. a higher speed spin

a note on B and C.....a higher spin speed will extract more wash water, for better rinsing, a higher speed final spin means less time in the dryer....definitely something these machines needed!

another definite pro for any of the ECO machines, the spin spray is directed onto the load, not half behind the wash basket...

give it time, improvements will be made....

I would like to see a ribbed basket of some sort, the tub is turning, might as well make use of the momentum...

Not defending behaviors

But, opinions are like rectums, everybody has one.

Advice, take it or leave it: You can Scroll on past, or develop thicker skin.

People say bad things about Whirlpool Duet machines. I have always contended if they are the worst they must be the best of the worst, because in the last nine years, I have been very happy with mine.

So if you are happy with your Speed Queen, it is ok to be proud of it, and just shrug off the Negative Nellies.

OK, I have to step back in again as you are doing wrong to me and the original poster.

Yes, he likes his machine, yes, he says he gets good results, and as much as that surprises me, I NEVER said ANYTHING against those points.

What I spoke up against was his obvious false claims.

Take a look at his comforter video titled "turned over a couple of times".
No it did not. That video is 4:34, and if you skip through it, you clearly see it moves an inch, maybe two inches at most.
At that pase, the main wash would have to be hours long for it to turn over several times.

Then he throws other machines under the bus reffering to his videos.

So I clearly showed via other video evidence that his claims of roll over are just plain made up and his degredation of other machines is just as made up as his first claims of roll over.

It's 2 entirely different things you have to evaluate entirely differently:

He likes his machine, fine. Surprises me, but ok. Maybe even his results on that comforter were great. Can't argue against that.

Him saying that certain other machines perform worse is just a plain lie.

Him saying that comforter turned over several times is a plain lie.

You all calling me horrible things for just stating the plain obvious is just insulting.

If you can't differentiate between me fighting an opinion and fighting false claims and statements, just don't bother even reading my stuff.

Honestly, just watch his comforter video.
Saying it turned over several times dosen't mean it did.

My god am I pissed off right now...

henene4

I said nothing negative about you. Everyone has an opinion.

I am not saying this is the case, but some have to justify their purchase. If they are happy with the results, so be it.

As for vacuumland. There are /were some poo-heads over there, but the Miss Manners site was shut down because of poo-heads too. They are everywhere.

I also said nothing negative about the purchasers choice, I am glad he is happy with it, I have sold just two of the 2018 SQ TL washers, we still have three in inventory to sell.

We took a big hit in sales, last year we had sold more than 50 SQ TLWs by this time. SQ will change this machine, the regional distributor admitted that sales are less than 1/2 of last years sales.

Needless to say dryer sales also took a big hit as well this year because many people buy pairs and with the FL washer shortage they lost even more business.

"Does not even remove coffee stains from my white shirt&

Oops, i spilled coffee on my white shirt, oh look, it came clean........ using one tide pod btw.....

New 2018 SQTL Washer

Funny you posted this today, I was just dealing with a customer in our area today that got a new TR5 series in July and is completely disgusted with its terrible cleaning and inability to handle even thin blankets, boy did she ever lay out lots of evidence about the poor performance.

She is going after the dealer that sold it for an exchange to the Maytag TL Commercial style washer.

My opinion is

I have not seen ANY new appliance on the market that even comes close to ANYTHING washer, stove, DW fridge etc, that was on the market 35 to 70 years ago, my 80s Hotpoint rim flo will wash rings around any new washer made today, my 80s Custom 21 Kitchenaid DW is so far superior to aNY new dishwasher, and my 59 Westinghouse range is 10,000 times better than anything new, just buy vintage, they are out there.
