Ok guys thought you might want to see my modern washer dryer - you are invited to see my little experiment. Just before I took this photo, I realised I had run out of detergent, EEEKEkk! SO as i need clean clothes for tomorrow, i had to improvise, i scraped all the old soap powder lumps off my inner drawer and put them into the tub, and also added some fairy liquid and a tiny bit of foaming bleach to the wash - Hmm Im not so sure I sould have used the bleach now, but it was handy at the time - of the folly of youth, so im nervous to see what comes out!

Oh please excuse the state of my kitchen as this is my student accomodation at the moment! Move home in 3 weeks! Yippieeee!

Hey, John, what are those bottles next to the toaster? And what's that tall thing in the corner? (I know what it looks like, but what is it, really?)
veg

AAaaarggghhh... get out there and buy a bottle of VIM!!!! I won't have you leaving a stove top looking that way. LOL
I also note you appear to be heavy handed with a knife from the state of the cutting board which leads me to assume that a good set of sharp kitchen knives is in order. This I'm sorry to say is proof positive that youth is wasted on the young.
Now that i'm done ranting..what about that little green toaster and what is that white gizmo in the corner?

HE HE HE

I KNOW I KNOW about the cooker top - its grose, i had jsut made my dinner of Tacos and got a little carried away stirring the mix. To be honest i just couldnt be bothered! LoL

And yeah, I own about 3 knives, all bought from Walmart for 60p - about a dollar! LoL I think the board looks bad cos i defrosted a bag of blueberries the other night not realising the bad wasnt sealed, and woke up to find juice all over my counter, it just will not get out of the board !!!

Ok the thing in the corner is a Soda Stream, basically a carbinator, you put a bottle of water into the door, press a button and it carbonates the water. The little bottles lined up are the drinks concentrate you can use, I have Dandilion and Burdock, Coke, Fizzy Strawberry Juice and Lemonade. You just add a capful of the concentrate and you have your soda! Cool eh, and you can adjust the fizzyness of it too, in case you dont like too much gas. Every 2-3 months I have to buy another gas cylinder that only costs a couple of quid, and the concentrates last about 3-4 months too, very concentratged. Much easier then lugging big bottles back from the store, and its always fizzy, never flat!

My Toaster is a morphy richards, but alas its not as old as it looks, it is a limited edition model they made for a short time, based around there 50's style toasters, mine have full computerized controls and lights on LoL just looks retro!

If you want ill take some pics of me carbonating a drink for you

Oh yes a soda-mate or soda-mistic type gadget. They were somewhat popular here about 20 years back, the nephew bought one and paid a fortune for it to save pennies on pop..lol You would buy gallon jugs of Coke,Pepsi etc syrup, enough for 10 lifetimes or the fuzz to grow on it. It did have one redeeming factor..you could also buy draft beer canisters to go along with it which were quite good considering, after all who cares much about the taste of beer after the 3rd or 4th glass. The toster can stay but I fear what lurks in the crumb catcher HA! The electric kettle, what is that a Krups model or DeLonghi.can't quite make it out though I've seen it for sale here.

Dandelion and Burdock..sorry John you won't find either of those soda's over here other than at a UK import store. Have drank it when I was over there and it is quite nice if you're a person who likes root beer or Dr.Pepper type drinks.

Very close!

Yes here in england too the Sodastream had its hay day in the 70/ 80's but they still make them and i love its retro appeal more than anything. Plus since I live on my own I cannot finish big jugs of soda.

Yes DeLonghi make one like it, its actually a Tefal, its a great kettle, boils so fast. Important for us and our tea!

Ohh im getting excited now, the washing machine is near the end of its cycle, I think its doing its 1200 rpm spin now, he hee hwill my clothes still be colored??????

Crumb tray? whats that? LoL - actually joking aside I havnt cleaned it our since xmas, so i woner whats in it, i really only make waffles in it tho, so lets see........

Are you ready........

EWWWWWWWWWWwwwwwwwww

Here's a tip for gracious entertaining...

Never ever clean out your crumb tray! In the event that you have unexpected guests just empty it out onto a pretty plate, shape into a ring and voila! Coffeecake.

Martha ain't got nothing on me.

Cooker

Here's a question for you Dishyjohn.

I thought I read that in Brit cookers (stoves) one of the ovens has heating elements along the sides of the oven..

Have I totally lost my mind? If not, why there? And what is the logic.

Tks,
Steve

wiring

Which appliance is hard-wired into the junction box (with the toaster, the W/D or the cooker?)

and are you SURE about that thing in the corner...? LOL

TKS.

Re: Washer/Dryer Make:

Hi! Dishyjohn, what Brand/Make is your Washer/Dryer? It is hard to tell from the angle view...I'm guessing maybe a Hoover, Hotpoint, Bosch or Creda!!!

Thank you for sharing the neat items, I've not seen the Soda Fizzer before, but I've seen ideas of similar products here when growing up, way back when...

Peace, Happy Washing & Drying and Fun Times, Steve
SactoTeddyBear...

ITs an Indeset!

the Washer Dryer is an Indeset, same make as Hotpoint - its a really good one as it can wash and dry the same load without having to take any of the clothes out, somthing you have to do with so many washer dryers.

toggle Switch, yes electric stoves here do have the elements along the sides of the oves! - I thoguht that was normal? Where are the elements in an American stove? Our gas stoves are of course heated from the back, and my particular stove, although electric is a fan oven so heats evenly. Im nost Brit stove ovens, you have to put stuff right in the middle, since is you put it to one side then it burn on the side thats near the wall as the element is there!
this is of course the large oven, my small oven has its element on the top.

Oh and its the cooker thats hard wired into a 30 amp box there, funny story tho cos it was condemmed origionally! - I noticed that my Gaggia espresson maker was tingling when i touched it witht he stove powered up, and then notived that everything metal was shocking me, so I put my multi meter across the appliances and there was a current there. the main box was not earthed, and since electric cookers here have a residual trickle of current to earth continuosly, I was getting that currrent piped back on to and metal appliance body - had to gt that sorted.
I guess it dosnt matter in the US where you only have 110v, but here since were on 230v can be quite a kick you get when you touch live - and yes I have done that before.

Toggle switch - im SO CURIOUS as to what you thinh the thing in the corner is! - I cannot think it looks like anything else but a drinks maker! Am i missing something?????

SORRY SORRY SORRY

My only comeback is that I use a Macintosh iBook and the keyboard is too small for my huge manly hands

Louis,

No no no! You've missed out the h...

We often rename them Indeshit at the shop I work at :-). Their previous ranges of machines were pretty dire; but actually their new range (which John has) are proving to be quite good and sturdy. I must admit I have fallen for them :=(.

John -

Where do you get the Sodastreams? Wilkinsons here used to sell them but they only sell refills now... How much do you get out of it? Just, our family gets through 3 crates of coke a week! (We buy 3 of those 4 multipack 2l bottles at the supermarket).

BTW I love your toaster and kettle! We have a horrible cheap white toaster and kettle, but I guess they get the job done so can't complain. Once the kitchen is done in August though I'm hoping we'll have all S/S worktop appliances :-)

Take care all, have a great day,

Jon

Hi Dishyjohn:

(Another novel ensues, in your honor.)

1) Our gas and electric stoves (cookers) heat from the bottom for "Bake" function which is actually for roasting too!
Sometimes both elements are energized (top and bottom) for good browning.

On an electric model, If not both elements by default (on the "Bake setting"), some older stoves have a "preheat" setting that energizes both elements.

2) Our gas and electric stoves heat from the top for the "Broil" (grill)function.

3) Most of our stoves sold today are (pyrolytic- heat based) self-cleaning. Hobs (solid electric elements) never did well here.

4) A standard stove here is 30" wide (75 cm). Wall ovens("fitted"==> UK) are either 24, 27 or 30 inches wide(60 to 75 cm). Gas wall ovens are generally the smallest size.

5) Many of our convection ovens ("Fan-ovens" => UK) IMHO do NOT have a third round heating element ("true-convection") surrounding the fan.

5) Please tell us about the trickle current that you describe, and why would all Brit cookers be guilty of that?

6) Wiring standard/ voltages. See a thread called something like "European Vs. American Washing Machines" or was it called "induction Cooking" one or both of those went into US and other wiring standards. (PS we use 220V also!) I think it fell off the "current" lisitngs and may be archived.

You may want to use search words like 500v or 500volts. which was one line in there.

7) Regarding the drink mixer....(LOL) Due to your big manly hands, you would stereotypically not need/use this. (You know what they say...big hands...big gloves.. LOL).However if we hear that the drink mixer connects to a vacuum pump, we may have to let this issue re-surface and tease you about this further. Too much said.

8) Dandelion flavored drink? MY MY MY MY. Most Americans think "that's a garden weed" My ethnic background teaches me "food" [As a courtesy to my neighbors, I dont plant this. The supermarket variety suffices.] Any iron-deficiencies out there.. ladies?.. this stuff is loaded with iron. write to me for the recipe.. LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL

AHHh Not I get it!

Oh you see what a sweet innocent boy I am! There was me thiinkg you meant something like my drink maker looks like a vase or something, but no toggle switch lowers the tone!1 LoL
(put it this way toggle baby - Im 6 foot 3 and get refused more times that not because of my..... gas canister size!)

LoL I love any root based drinks, root beer inc. Did you know dandelion is actually a strong diretc - and in French its name is pissent le lit - piss the bed plant, as its supposed to cause t you to do just that! Actauly the young leaves are lovely in salads but get bitter if you pick the leaves big. Also my chickens love these plants. However i do not think the store bought stuff has seen any real plants, its all chemical flavourings. Im actualyl very interested in natural remidies and the power of plants its kinda a hobby of mine, I like to get back to natural things so do cook stuff like nettle soup etc.

Oh yes about my cooker, we the electrician told me this fact and I am racking my brains to remember the reason. Yes our electric cookers here leak a voltage to earth continuolsy, and for a reaon he said - damn wish I could remember! It was quite a tingle i got esp with wet hands! That connection is of course a 30 amp socket, not a normal 13 amp we use for our normal plugs here.

We used to live on an american base as my Mom was in the American Airforce! LoL ok she worked in the offices on base, but the yanks always said they prefered the higer power in england, appliances were more powerful that those back home. I guess the higher the voltage the better - I am gonna buy an electric car soon, and while researching, the higher current helps them to charge faster, I see you have to have a special 220v thing installed in your garage to get the same charging speed in the USA.

Beware of Polish Kielbasa

In my own defense.. I did not even THINK about your drink machine..

AHEM others mentioned it first. Then of course, I had to chuckle and agree!!!

And yes, being respectful of your age and "innocence", I chose NOT to write to you offline!!

Ha, I thought they meant your fizzy-drink machine looked like one of those cylindrical waterpipes normally used for smoking Dr. Ganja's Prescription Blend.

I do like the idea of custom-producing one's soda pop though. Make it sweeter, I say. More orange in the orange soda, until it glows in the dark!:-).

You can also put N2O cartridges in those things and add cold heavy cream (and sugar and vanilla), and get instant Ready Whip to spray all over the place or on your partner, or maybe on your ice cream deserts if you can restrain yourself long enough...

....or as grandma used to say
"O Klepsas tou klepsantos."

"It takes a thief to know the ways of a thief."

One guy sees a nargyle (*BONG* in the vernacular), the other an extension device.

Speaks volumes don't it? LOL LOL LOL

N2O

Isn't that the recipe for poppers? OOPPS no.. I meant "Video head cleaner"

For use only as directed. Deliberately concentratng and inhaling the content of these cylinders may be hazardous to your health.

YA THINK?

Poppers

Got invited to a New Year's Eve party ...BY FAMILY... and they said "Please come we're going to have poppers."

I thought my ears were deceiving me. I cant' be.. what the H#% are they talking about?

Sure enough it was this tiny Chinese indoor fire-cracker thingy that you pull the string and out pops a paper streamer.

[No baby, I will not pull your hanging little string, pull you own damn string!!! LOL]

Me and my date just BUSTED OUT LAUGHING.

Another Popper Story

GOD I had a terrible embarassing inncodent with poppers , a bus and lots of old people!
Ohh im debating wether to tell you or not, Im sat here laughing actually recalling it!
ToggleSwitch i want to see what you look like, I cannot find a pic of you on board, post one will ya honey!

nosey mother.

Now behave.

My government says you are too young for me!!

Yes, please save that story for off-line!

Here's one of mine. I had a cousin "by marriage" who left a bottle of video head cleaner in the refrigerator and told his mother. "Don't touch".

So of course what does she do? You guessed it, opened it and managed to use it correctly. We laughed so hard we nearly peed ousdelves imagining her "Clutching her pearls" and freaking out at the effect. (Which shall not be here described!) LOL

IM 25!!!!!

You telling me she actually knew what they were and had a good sniff??? LoL

My god I know our countries have different age lasw - but are you telling me the age of consent there is above 25? Cos Im 25!!!! Lol

Here in england the age of consent is 16 regardless of sex, and who your doing it with! (consentual of course)

No, Yes
No. 22 will keep one from having a room-mate named bubba.
That may be England.

We have a Puritanical infleunce here that refuses to DIE.
We are totally hung-up on things like nudity and sexuality.

There is a law here that states a man may bring his daughter up to the age of 5 years old into the men's locker-room. I can tell you this...that room will clear out SO FAST your head will spin. And I would have to say, being a product of my zip (postal) code. I feel the same way.

As it is when a man brings his underage son into the locker/shower room I am dressed and outta there.

..and dont nobody say nuthin wise-a@@, neitha!

We have had a few witch-hunts here when it comes to bottom-feeder media frenzies that all day-care centers are molestation centers.

I still giggle when a friend tells me he lived in Sweden and grandma, daddy, and young kiddie are in the sauna with their uglies out getting steam. Just can't see it.

Nudity

Yeah i notice when i watch stuff like Extreme makeover and other cosmetic programs, you guys blur our the nipples and ass!!!! Never got that, we get to see the lot here, even guys bits!
