Mystery of The Maytag DE409 plug wires...help appreciated!

We inherited a lovely DE409 Maytag dryer that is supposed to still be working, but we can't test it as it didn't come with a cord. I bought one and opened it up, thinking the wiring would look liked the others I've seen on YouTube. It does not! The terminal is vertical, plus the wire colors are different (for example red and black wires on same mount?!) and I'm not sure where to put the grounding wire.
Can you help me know where to put my 4 wire cord attachment?

To properly install a 4 prong dryer cord remove the silver strap that connects the middle terminal to the dryer cabinet. Use the screw from the strap to connect the green wire from the cord to the dryer in the same hole you removed the screw from.

Connect the white wire from the cord to the center terminal on the block.

Connect the red wire to one of the remaining outer terminals.

Connect the black wire to the other outer terminal.

Save the little silver strap for the future if ever to switch the cord to 3 prong.

Send us a picture when connected before plugging in and one of us can verify if it is correct.

Hi Repairguy!

Hey, thanks, I think I get your drift.Took off the silver bracket, then noticed that the white wires now and the green wire when I put it on will not have washers between like the other wires do. Is this a problem? Will there need to be washers between everything? I put a picture of the little washers with a flat side below.

The main thing is that the connections are tight. When 2 or 3 wires are together you want to make sure each one is offset so that when tightened the rings from each wire will make a solid connection.

Ok, I'm struggling with this! If I thread the cord through the hole it's supposed to go through, I don't have enough of the green wire to reach through to the hole on the other side. Repairguy, I'd happily pay 20 30 bucks to have your guidance on the phone today. I really don't want to start a fire or have to give up!I don't know how safe it is to have stuff touching.

Push the heavy black cable further into the dryer, it does not matter if the wires are bent.

 

In fact connect the green wire first then loop the other 3 around and attach them as you have them.

 

And you are good to go, Yay

Okay, I think I got it, will you check my work? I'm nervous!!! I tightened everything down and it looks like the metal bits are clear of other stuff. I'm closing up the back!
