This weekend marked the 12th anniversary of the death of a comedic legend, John Candy. He was one of my favorite actors of all time and to celebrate his memory, every year on March 4, I make a point to watch one John Candy movie.
This Year the movie was Uncle Buck. I came up to the part where Buck has the mishap with the washing machine (the lid won't open). What I would like to know is if anyone can tell me what kind of machine this is. Not enough of the machine is shown. I know some of the older top loaders locked the lid for the spin cycle, I wonder if this was one of them or if this incident was just part of the script. Feel free to tell me if I am pondering too much.
P.S. I've been "talking dirty" to my machine lately because I just can't get the softener dispenser to budge.

The Uncle Buck laundry had KitchenAid machines. No lid locks, but for the bit, they probably just screwed the top down. I think in one of the very first scenes, they show the dog climbing out of the dryer. I have never gotten a good look at the panels of these so I don't know what models they used.

I love the scene of him doing the family laundry in the kitchen with tongs, platters and the microwave... The trampy neighbor says "you have no idea what you're doing, you need a little adult supervision..."

Another favorite; "Fine I'll just go home and wait for the FedEx man!"

Tongs, platters, and the microwave eh? Nothing like nuking out the dirt, for whiter whites than boiling on the stove!

wow, 12 years?

John Candy was a great actor, and a funny guy. My favorite role of his was as Del Griffith in "Planes, Trains & Automobiles"
I know the vacuum used in that movie was a Hoover Innovation hard-case...
