Versatronic: I love your collection! I am a huge fan of 70's British glam rock, especially T. Rex, Slade, Sweet, Suzi Quatro, Sparks, Mud. Since I am an original Class of '77 guy, I'm also into all the classic punk/pop--Pistols, Damned, Undertones, Buzzcocks, X-Ray Spex, etc. NY Dolls rule!

I also lean toward alternative (and Brit glam was definitely alternative in the US back when I was a teen---most people in Minnesota had no idea who those bands were, save for T. Rex and Sweet) ---love Sonic Youth, The Fall, Captain Beefheart, Pavement, Guided By Voices and a hundred others.

Very cool collection, man.

I never met anyone who had as many T-Rex, Marc Bolan CDs as I do. It seems we have very similar tastes. My favorite Sparks CD is Propaganda. I love the Undertones as well. Also love the Buzzcocks. I saw them live with the original line-up about two years ago. I've seen GBV live about 3 times. No one mentioned Roxy Music. That's another band I love. Just too many to mention. Nice collection. Got a vinyl collection?
 
Ohmygod, I LOVE Roxy Music. Saw their reunion tour (w/ Chris Spedding as 2nd guitarist) in Minneapolis a few years ago. They were so awesome. As for Sparks, I love the trilogy--Kimono My House, Propoganda, Indiscreet---the most. But I'm a big fan of even their newer stuff---Gratuitous Sax, Lil' Beethoven.

Yes, I still have some vinyl. At one point, I had nearly 1500 alubms, but got rid of a lot of it in The Great Vinyl Purge of '89. You can imagine the hassle of moving dozens of boxes of albums around from one apt to the next. I finally sat down, took stock, drank several gin/tonics and starting pulling out albums I hadn't listened to in several years. I gave away/sold/threw out so many albums I wish I had, now. But that's water under the bridge. It was stupid and I did it and that's that. I had so much colored vinyl from that late 70's/early 80's period...picture discs....I have to stop writing about it or I might cry, LOL. Fortunately, I've been able to pick up many of my lost items on CD the past few years, which is good. Sites like MusicExpress and Amazon.com have really been a blessing.

I'm not sure if this fits into the "rock" category or not, but I've ALWAYS been a fan of The Beach Boys. My favorite hit of theirs has to be "Surfin' Safari". I guess the "water" theme is why I think their songs are the absolute best "vintage washing music" there is, no matter what you're using...Norge, Bendix, Westinghouse, Kenmore, Kelvinator, Frigidaire, you name it, they go right along with the rhythm of the machine!!!

And if you wanted to get really anal, which I don't, but I'm just saying, Piece Of My Heart was by Big Brother And The Holding Company and Gloria was by Them.

Surpisingly enough, I'm a big mid-period Beach Boys fan, circa Pet Sounds and Smile. Some of that stuff is unreal. Of course, I love some of the Phil Spector productions and I think that's who Brian was attempting to emulate during that period and he did quite well.
