Hello all!

I've been absent from this board since I moved to an apartment in 2005, but just put an offer in on a 1957 ranch house. Fingers crossed!

The washer/dryer space is a bit narrow, at 54". I don't think I can fit my ideal set (center timer Maytag) in there. Any suggestions on nifty vintage machines that will fit in a narrow space?

Thanks!!

GE made 24" Filter-Flo's during the Sixties but they are VERY rare. I don't think anyone here has even posted one. Anyway, 24 + 27 = 51. I think you'll have better luck finding a Kenmore; I just saw one drive past me in a pickup truck yesterday.

We had a 24" FF at one point. I don't know where it is now. The brushed metal on the control panel had a bluish tint. We also had a combo with the same bluish control panel.

You could easily use a 27" GE dryer, a much better performer than a HOH, with a center dial Maytag and not have to use so much lubricant to get them into position.

What he said

Actually that's a brilliant suggestion; a 'Tag or a Whirlmore paired with a 27" standard-sized GE dryer would give anyone an excellently functional, if not matching, vintage pair. 25.5+27=52.5

Tight spaces...

And we're in a house built in '58 and the space is also really tight, but all my sets will fit. Our laundry "room" is right off of our family room. And when I rotate my appliance stock, it depends on what type of dryer door which side the washer ends up. (see photo with furnace a little in the way on the right) Hamper-style dryer doors have to go on the left, otherwise I can set them up with washer on right.

24" GE

I would fall over to find a 24" GE machine like that! I think they did however make them for a good long while after the 60's...

Hmmmm,

I wish I knew when GE began making 24" Filter-Flo washers. Having never seen one up close, Given the design of the FF suspension and outer tub, I wonder how they could have prevented the washers from banging themselves to pieces in the event of an unbalanced load.

I'd plotz big time if I ever saw this:
