Need set-down adjustment

Does anyone know where the adjustment screw is on my Automatic model?

It sets down to far on the outside of the record. On some LP's it will land on the raised part of the beginning which will cause it to skate into the first song.

I've seen the needle set down point as a screw directly under the cover at the rear of the tonearm. Lift up the tonearm and you can see it. I have also seen it in a little hole in the top of the turntable surface. Look down in the hole and you'll see the screw.
It's usually somewhere in front of on the side of the tonearm base, but not always.

Will (classic caprice)-- Your portable Magnavox's changer looks exactly like the stereo I grew up with, although ours was in a console; Same hook on the stabilizer, same markings on the tone arm, same wiry-looking lock on the arm rest.

Are the controls (speed and reject) stubby/short? Ours were. I know a few years later the controls on Magnavoxes were on a little tower.

I was born in January of '59, and I've seen photos of me as a newborn, with the stereo in the background. My older sister doesn't remember exactly when it was purchased, but she thought it was '57 or '58.

God, I loved that stereo. I spent SO many hours standing in front of it as a toddler, watching and listening. I attribute my becoming a musician to that Magnavox. The whole reject cycle was fascinating---so much cooler than any other changer.

Got it!

It's the little brass screw on the back right side of the base of the tonearm. I backed it up a little and now it touches down in the groove, not the very edge of the record.

the Magnavox is my favorite!!!

Eugene,
It was the first record player I ever bought on my own (the modern Crosley, Fisher Price, and '68 RCA had been gifts). It sounds fabulous! The controls are just as you remember and the reject is pretty cool too. I saw the console version last summer in an antique shop on a trip to California. I fell in love with it too, but there was no way I could have afforded the shipping to get it to Virginia.

Allen, I don't think that they are leather... the Symphonic and Music Master are, but the RCA 45 and Columbia, almost seem like paper.

Anyone know...

A good place to find a 45 changer that will fit some of these babies (I've got ones you put in the 45s, but was hoping to find the changers)?

Any place I could get a replacement knob for the Columbia?
When I get to the Columbia, I have a feeling I'll be asking a few questions on here... somebody did a number on that one trying to fix it.
